Transmission is the most simple and Mac-like, Azureus is the most full-featured and robust.

I use the command line client.
Interestingly - when directly connected, it is slow as hell - but when going through a hardware router, it is fine. I think it is the number of connections it opens up that can cause client performance issues.

Re: What torrent program do you use?
I just got transmisson.
Is it common to only connect to 9 out of 30 peers, with a download speed of 10 KB/s?
There are 11 seeders and 295 leachers.
It seems like i can never get a torrent to download at a speed that doesnt take me less than a few days.

Re: What torrent program do you use?
I use Transmission too - great app. To answer your question, yes, downloads always start off slow, and then get progressively faster, as you get more of the file to share with other people. Also, you can improve your download speeds tremendously by increasing your upload limit. Your Download rate is proportional to your upload rate, so the more the merrier for everyone. Just be careful not to share too much if you have DSL. Even so, some torrents will be faster than others, depending on popularity.

Re: What torrent program do you use?
It recently took two weeks to download a 3.29 GB file, for a variety of reasons: the originator had problems, the first few who got the whole thing didn't share, people blamed the torrent site being slow, etc. It was reassuring to know that others were having the same trouble, because some days I'd only get a whole 1 MB downloaded.
Transmission sounds interesting. The most important feature for me (ironically after what I just said), is limiting download rate, because of my satellite connection.

Yeah, two weeks is a really, really long time for 3.3GB, but it happens sometimes. Usually, it's more like 3-12 hours, again, depending on popularity.

Re: What torrent program do you use?
I don't know if this helps, but I use BitSpirit. Of course, I run it on XP, so I don't know how well it'll work out on a Mac. Does just fine for what I use it for.
Alright, now, who wants to be transistorized?
