The MacBook Heat We Love to Hate. Post Your Heat Here.
I'm a new Mac user and just purchased a Black MacBook with 2 GB RAM.
I'm also sure everyone is sick of hearing about the heat problems with the MacBook, but this is too much! 75 Celsius with movie (.avi) playing, that's 167 Fahrenheit!
Post your MacBook heat screenshot here.

Whoa, 167! This isn't a macbook, but this is my Powerbook's average temp.:
Mac Pro, Two 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, NVIDIA 8800 GT, 7 GB RAM.
15" Macbook Pro, 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo, NVIDIA 9600 M, 4 GB RAM.

Re: The MacBook Heat We Love to Hate. Post Your Heat Here.
Mine changes all the time. When it first starts up it is at around 30 degrees. After around an hour it might be up to the mid 50s. When I am using the superdrive, it will go up to the upper 60s. It has gotten as hot as 75 degrees, but that is with playing a DVD, Big Bang Board Games Chess, Adium, Safari, etc...
Right now, after about two hours of use running off the power adapter, it is at a stable 60 degrees.
Now that I own the MacBook I know why people were complaining about the heat. It does get fairly toasty, but It never gets too hot for me to use it on my lap. I guess some people can handle more heat than others.

Okay, where do I find the temp report?
My MacBook arrived just today and I have not been able to locate it.
Is it a widget?

I use the program temperature monitor and with the way the fans are set up, it allows my computer to get up to about 175F (full processor load) and then the fans kick on full speed until it gets down to about 130F in about 30 seconds time. I'd personally like a way to control the fans a bit more, but until that (if that) happens, I can live with the temps. It is within spec after all. But currently I'm at:
Core 1: 66C
Core 2: 47C (currently turned off, just leeching heat from the other core)
Hard Drive: 35.0C

Re: The MacBook Heat We Love to Hate. Post Your Heat Here.
I noticed significant lessening of heat after using the computer while the laptop is unplugged from the electricity. It's actually bearable to my lap. Could it be the MagSafe adapter causing the heat?

Re: The MacBook Heat We Love to Hate. Post Your Heat Here.
If you are charging the battery, it will get hotter than if it is running from the battery. A battery has to heat up to at least 70 degrees or so before it will accept a charge. It has to do with the chemical reactions that occur during charging.

Re: The MacBook Heat We Love to Hate. Post Your Heat Here.
Mine seems to average 145 degrees.
Since this is my first portable Mac, is that overly warm? This MacBook does not seem to be any warmer than the peecee portables I've used at work.

That translates to 63 degrees C, so you're OK.

Re: The MacBook Heat We Love to Hate. Post Your Heat Here.
My MBP 17" hit 88c yesterday. It ran at around that temp for about 3 hours (while rendering) with no problems.
Still Yikes though, that's hotter than my coffee!
Good thing for the magsafe or I'd be worried about spilling boiling MacBook on myself.

Re: The MacBook Heat We Love to Hate. Post Your Heat Here.
man these things get hot pretty fast..people fly into space but cant make a laptop operate under 70c?
Orion:
Even when the battery is already full, it stays hotter than when the connector is not in at all. Doesn't the charger stop charging the battery and start directly powering the laptop when its full?

Yeah, we fly into space using thirty year-old technology with pieces falling off it.
The laptops are only ten times more sophisticated than the Space Shuttle.
Currently using:
2.33GHz MBP, OS X 10.5, 2GB RAM
1.6GHz G5, OS X 10.4, 1.5GB RAM
400MHz G4, OS 9.1, 640MB RAM (RIP SuperMac C500, Performa 476!)

It's called "proven technology". Well, apart from the bits falling off part, that is. Anyway, you don't want your guidance systems crashing on you during ascend or re-entry.

im pretty sure brain surgery is more involved than cooling laptops. im also pretty damn sure a thermodynamics expert would be able to figure it out, if only apple wasn't so secretive about their design.

I'm in the market for a MacBook, but I'm holding off till Apple starts using the Core 2 Duo (aka Meron) Series of processors from Intel...hopefully at the end of this month (July 23rd rumored launch) and I hope it fixes the heat issue.
I had a Asus Pentium M 1.5 laptop up untill a week ago (I sold it) and it ran at 54C Under full sustained load.
I hope the Core 2 Duo runs cool: Linky

Hmm I hope they don't replace the MacBook line with Duo 2s cause I just bought mine two weeks ago. If its just the MacBook Pros then I'm fine.

There will be a slight speed bump and 64-bit, but nothing really earth shattering. Should get more interested when Santa Rosa ships next summer.

64bit sound good but so far after 2-3 yrs with G5/AMD64 with both X/XP, what real world benefit for 99.999% of user did we gain from it?
Heat problem is due to thin case and power cosideration(otherwise they can just ran a nice high power fan full time), I doubt the issue will go away.
