OCZ signs Wal-Mart
!
The world's largest retailer welcomes OCZ
OCZ has announced a distribution agreement with the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart, which operates over 1,100 Wal-Mart stores, over 2,000 Supercenters and nearly 600 Sam's Clubs, marks OCZ's second large-scale agreement with a US retailer in less than a month -- in late June, OCZ signed a two-year agreement with Buy.com.
Ryan Petersen, OCZ's CEO, is confident that the relationship will give the company even more exposure in the US market and expand the availability of its products by partnering with one of the most recognizable brands in America. “Securing a relationship with the online division of the world’s largest retailer will enable OCZ to vastly expand the availability of our products in the States. We look forward to working closely with Wal-Mart to make OCZ’s leading edge products more readily available to consumers,” said Petersen.

Think about how much retail presence OCZ will now have over the other brands. This is a huge win for OCZ, really.

OCZ is pretty good. Think of the Brand X stuff you can get at, say, Best Buy, and it's a win for both.
It's kinda like being able to go to Office Depot and buy top-line Corsair. (We'll have to see what actual products they carry in-store, of course, but still...)

Re: OCZ signs Wal-Mart
Is it OCZ signs Walmart or is it Walmart Signs OCZ?
Personally, while I doubt it will hurt OCZ, I don't see myself (or geeks in general) buying memory at Walmart.
Further, if I'm not going to buy it online, I'll give the mom and pop a few more of my pennies. They need them more than Wally-world

I think it"s great that you can give more of your cash to the mom & pop stores, but when you're on a tight budget, any penny saved is good.

For better or worse Wal-Mart is a ten minute walk from my house. If I can get somethng decent there in 30 minutes and get some exercise I'm going for it.
In theory I'd like to support local merchants. In practice their prices are MSRP++ and they spend more money buying stories in the local paper complaining about how local people don't support local merchants than they spend on advertising. smurf 'em.
Patience is a virtue of the weak for it makes them stand still long enough for the strong to crush them with ease.

Re: OCZ signs Wal-Mart
I understand,
For me, the Local stores have served me well. Before I moved (now live in the hell that is Las Vegas), my local computer shops were basically priced like newegg+shipping+2% for most things. Basically MSRP. Walmart was cheaper, but unless there was a local store, the selection was crap. After using the local store, the guys there started giving me free bees. Not a video card or anything, but a free tube of artic silver is always nice.
I watched Walmart ruin that town.
Wally world had a great selection of paint (and craft stuff) for example. When the local place went (paint and craft store) under, suddenly walmarts selection got small.
Not gonna say it was a conspiracy....I don't think it was. I think its a practice.
From then on, me and the wife drove 1 hour to "the big city" twice a month. We did all of our shopping there unless a local store had what we needed. Might sound dumb to you guys....but I felt better about it. I'm sure Walmart didn't notice. But I did.
Anyways.....annoy you guys later....I'm off to Peru for a couple weeks. Play nice and all

Re: OCZ signs Wal-Mart

I have yet to buy anything PC/computer related at Wally World. Console/video game yes, but not PC stuff. CDW, Tiger, Newegg and the local CompUSA are my solutions for that stuff. Seeing I'm only a half hour from the Tiger Direct warehouse/outlet store I don't think my shopping habits are going to change.
Honestly selling PC upgrades without knowledgeable staff is dangerous and reckless to the public and their machines at large. Sure you and I know what we're doing but not John Q Public. If a friend, neighbor or client asks for help and needed hardware never would I suggest getting parts at Wal-Mart. I can see OCZs RMA and returns going through the roof with this. Not because the hardware is bad but because the public doesn't know what it's for or how it works. Sorry that DDR(2) stick in the bright packaging isn't going to fit your PIII box...but hey it looks good!
In example I can't count the number of times I've helped someone in the isles about to make the wrong decision. I remember the first time well. Some lady was buying the latest/greatest educational games for her kids. I was looking for the Mac version of Myth:TFL at CompUSA. I asked her what kind of Mac she had...since we were in the Mac software section. She said I don't have a Mac. I have a 486. I politely pointed to the Apple Store hanger above our head and said she needed to be 'over there'. As she walked away I told her to read the system requirements well because finding software for her old 486 might be tough. The last time was at the TD outlet where I help a lady and her son pick out a video card upgrade for WoW. The machine was using built in Intel video. After confirming they had an open AGP slot I suggested a 9600XT. I hope they were right about having an AGP slot.

Re: OCZ signs Wal-Mart
The unedumacated will always be a danger to themselves... e.g. the DVD editions of games are almost always sold out. I wonder how many are sold to peeps who actually have DVD drives in their machines ("...but I have a DVD player. Doesn't that count?"
)
But DVD sounds better, dunnit?
