I've kindof been out the computer sceen for the last couple years, expecially pc's so i'm hoping to get your imput on it. I have a year old iMac, so it wont be my main computer, but I plan to use it for homework (college) watch movies, music, and play some games (WOW mainly). I see that it has shared memory, how bad will that effect proformence?
I also found this one for $50 more

Re: Toshiba Laptops?
shared memory will basically make games well-nigh-unusable.
Otherwise, not bad.

Re: Toshiba Laptops?
I know 2 peeps with a Toshiba laptop and they love it. They are not gamers that's for sure
I wouldn't think of a laptop as a gaming rig unless you're going high end., but I don't think it's what you're looking for. Although I can use mine to play CoD United Offensive
I would add some ram. I don't know how many slots you have for it tho. Try getting it to a gig, unless you only do word processing. I hope you enjoy your laptop as much as I do

Re: Toshiba Laptops?
If you are going to be playing games mainly - then a laptop is not really what you want. But, if games are secondary and you can handle not being able to play certain ones on it, then either seems OK.
The Proc in the first one is a bit slow, but again, its not a game box. Since the memory is shared, you might opt for at least a gig. I don't know enough about current AMD chips to comment on the second much, except to say it is a better proc - I just can't quantify how much.
I play DVDs on a 1.63 P4 with 512 laptop with no problems - so I think you are set there. Office type applications should be happy as well on either machine. Mathmatica should be fine and even phtoshop as long as you are not working with GB sized files and not not in a super hurry. You might research the Procs to help you decide. The 2GB limit in the second one is not really an issue IMO. Yet, the 64MB limit on the shared video memory might be. See what WOW requirements are.
Vista ready? God only knows
and possibly Mr. Gates - but I doubt it.

Re: Toshiba Laptops?
Well I'll just be using it when I'm away from home/dorm as I have a 2Ghz iMac. Getting 50fps doesn't really matter to me as i'm used to getting <20 in WOW with my iMac. The system req. for WOW are pretty low since it come out 2 years ago or so. Any laptop I end up and get i'll be sure to get 1gb of ram for sure, and a wireless mouse
