Timcode problems- pro help needed

I am trying to capture video that was shot on a DVX 100A but running into problems. FCP 5 either takes forever capturing the footage because it keeps claiming there are timecode breaks, or when I tried telling FCP to ignore the breaks just gives me an error result and capturing stops. I am using my own DVC 30 camera to capture the footage.

Any ideas what the problem is, and how to resolve it.

Ok i think part of this problem is the free run time code. I asked a videographer who taped this reel about the timecode system he used, he said he used a FREE RUN TIMECODE and it might be a reason of my trouble. Anybody know if this is a common prob for FCP?

I don't know what the problem is, but if you can get hold of a second camera, dub the tape to a new one. That should give you new timecode.

The best solution I have found is what papa said and just dubbing it over .

Re: Timcode problems- pro help needed

Free run TC means that when the camera was stopped, the timecode kept advancing, so when the camera was recording again the TC wasn't continuous, but completely different.  If the REC was pressed to stop the camera at 1:04:13...and 5 minutes later pressed again to start recording, the new code would start at 1:09:13...ish.  This is also called TIME OF DAY code...when the camera is set to the time of day so that if you have 2 or more cameras that you need to sync in post you can easily do so by looking for the similiar code.

The best solution is the one Papa offered.

Well thats pretty much what had to be done. I had to eye ball it. Luckily I was able to get a rough cut done quickly, and it would seem that the client is happy. Thanks for responding people.
