The answer to the question is... No. And truth be told, he never could. You have to be connected politically to run for national office... and have access to lots of money.

And - you have to be a full blown drug addict.
Clinton smoked but did not inhale.
Bush did cocaine but is now recovering.
But the trend is clear - the next president has to be a crack head.

Apparently Mr Smith has great difficulty even getting into more than a few theaters. I hold little hope of him seeing Washington. I do feel it's probably only a matter of time before this topic makes it into Minithink though.

Give me recreational pot smoker president over a recreational coke user / alcoholic president any day.

I never understood the mockery of Clinton for his "I tried it, but didn't inhale" line. It seems perfectly plausible to me. I know quite a few people who just can't inhale smoke.

Its an independent film, made with a $200 camera from Best Buy and uses Windows Movie Maker for the title and credits frames...its not your SONY INDIE films...plus, this movie makes one cry, it really does. He worked so hard for the black votes, he practically grew up with the population and at the last moment the Newspaper endorsed the Carnahan Dynasty....who by the way (Russ Carnahan) is nowhere as spirited, gifted or motivated as his late father, and ran a nasty, terrible campaign against Mr. Smith.

Re: GREAT MOVIE...YOU HAVE TO SEE!
It challenges the dynasty web (that is "state families") that control the nation. The folks like the Kennedys, Carnahans, Blunts, Fords, Rockafellers....republican and democrat...the folks who should have term limits applied to them...
And its a day by day documentary of a campaign run by a 26 year old Campaign manager, and a staff that is younger than he...essentially a bunch of college kids...
The hardline was, Russ Carnahan had never, and would never set foot in the neighborhoods of the districts that Jeff Smith farmed, he wouldn't even in the end grab the endorsement of the mayor of the city, or many of the county townships...but he did have a last name, and that name did for him what Jeff did with guts and a cell phone, and a team of 16 or so kids.
In the end, Smith lost only by 2,000 votes!
