MacSoft 's 'Big Announcement' today?

Whatever they have in store, Tuncer at IMG says to stay tuned for it today.

So... Halo 2? The next Spongebob Squarepants game?.. no, that's Destineer. The Moon is made of green cheese and iPods after all?

Guesses? smile

Then agian Atari just announced the multiplayer beta sign ups for Neverwinter Nights 2. It could be that MacSoft is continuing with NWN.

Re: MacSoft 's 'Big Announcement' today?

Nope- it's Age of Empires III!!!!!!!!

woohooo!!!! that's very good news. see the IMG article here:

http://insidemacgames.com/news/story.php?ID=13887

It doesn't link to anything else except Macsoft's site, which isn't saying much.

I may be the only one, but I'm pretty psyched.

Featuring amazing 3D graphics, remarkable Ageia® PhysX® technology

Like that is any help to the Mac folks. Unless something else is coming... wink

Sooooo the big question...

With 18 million units sold can we call this a triple A title? One of the firsts since boot camp. wink

Re: MacSoft 's 'Big Announcement' today?

I think it's the first announced since. MacSoft has been promising a AAA announcement since about January.

We may never know if this was it, or if they had another, scrubbed it and had to wait on a new one.

Anywhichway, it is good news, and a major game. Me wonders if they held off until after the new machines announced at WWDC to make sure there would be some powerful new des- er, workstations in folks' hands when this ships, software physics and all.

Many at IMG guessed this as the one. I may have too. I'll have to check sometime.

(You know there's something wrong with Mac gaming, or at least a hole in Apple's product line, when an IMG Admin up and says the new machines just push him further towards buidling a gaming PC. His existing machine does everything else he needs it to do, and no friggin' way he's spending $2,500 just to play games tongue ).

If you can call it that. It's all politics.

(Besides which, if I'd know enough at the time, I would have said Chapter 7 (Instant Death) ; Chapter 11's just too upbeat. tongue)

Re: MacSoft 's 'Big Announcement' today?

And it will be ready next month - frankly, I like it when they delay announcing something till it's almost done, unlike Feral: Colin McRae and Fable were announced sooooo long ago.

Yeah, that's kind of nice.
When I first saw their big "announcement" I was like... PC users will be laughing all the way to the store to pick up the fourth game in the series... cause it'll be out by the time we ever see this one.

Re: MacSoft 's 'Big Announcement' today?

One might get the impression Destineer's focus is not on the Mac these days...

Destineer Opens Raleigh, NC Game Dev Studio >> 08:37 AM - John JCal Callaham

This press release announces that game developer/publisher Destineer will open up a new game development studio in Raleigh, North Carolina. The press release said that Destineer hopes to grow the studio up to 100 people to both develop commercial video games alongside training programs for the US intelligence community. The new offices will officially open on Aug. 28.

Peter's raking in bucks from the Gov't. At least they're still in business and haven't gone for "casual gaming" like, say, MacPlay. Still, Destineer makes for more for PC and XBox than Mac (thru MacSoft) these days. Hard to blame them in light of Bootcamp.

I don't think the Mac Pro is intended as a personal machine in any respect.  The fact that they call it a "workstation" is proof enough.

True, tho a fair number of the IMG hardcore are reaching for plastic or have already ordered. I did mention a hole in Apple's product line. Guess they make mo' money with nothing between iMacs and these.

Re: MacSoft 's 'Big Announcement' today?

You bet.  I wouldn't even consider something this powerful if there were a single dual core with a little less expandability in the line up.

Damn.

I was hoping for Pimps At Sea.

Maybe with the special "Turn them out" options. I still want to see the Grunt version of Huggy Bear.

Maybe next year...

Seconding this.  Come January there's only one game I'm going to load on my Mac Pro - UT2k7.

Well, that and maybe 20 other games, but still.  GO UT2K7!!!

Yeah, I hope they include something for the prosumer now that they effectively made the pro line a workstation.
