And Magic: The Gathering is more a nerd thing than goth (by far). I have yet to see s goth kid show up at a tourney (though I haven't been in a long time).
I have no clue about tourneys, but nerds I knew that were into any kind of gaming back then were primarily into quake and half life and lan parties, not card games.

But they dressed like Goths and did Goth like stuff - such as Magic The Gathering.Magic: The Gathering is goth?
I played and I sure as hell wasn't goth. I was total nerd.It wasn't goth, but if you were goth, you almost certainly played it.

When I have the opportunity to date, it almost always is a liberal left democrat that I'm with.
Maybe that has something to do with living in the state of California, just not a lot of conservative chicks out there.

When I was in high school the goth kids simply listened to Bauhaus and the Cure. They didn't play magic.
Although I recall that game coming out when I was leaving high school.

Not now, I rarely see people playing magic now.
But everyone I knew who was "goth" always had a deck in their pocket in the late 90s.

Many if not most of the republicans here are over 40 (there is a large retirement community here) - and I've only lived here about 4 years, I was Bay Area before here.
Rock the vote failed because the young ones don't vote - hence the 70% repub in Shasta County.
The chicks I've dated here have all been college chicks, and not from the christian schools.

Ha! Same as when I was in school. (Class of '90)
On the whole goth/nerd thing, though: It seemed like a lot of the "goths" I knew in high school were actually nerds who were trying to be "edgy."
The only guy I knew who I felt was truly goth down to his core was an exchange student from Germany, and he played Magic like there was no tomorrow.

Re: Why the emo hate?
Who cares about that Magic card game anymore? I guess I was too young for it. I grew up in the Pokemon era, but I wasn't really into that anyway.
To me goth is gigantic baggy pants (not jeans) with chains, many piercings, black lipstick, etc.
Emo is sort of like tight jeans and converse sneakers, mohawks, or hair in front of the eyes, dyed black hair, polaroid cameras, mixtapes, etc.
Dashboard Confessional, Hawthorne Heights, Armor for Sleep, Fall Out Boy, etc. and bands I would consider emo.
Some people just call them "Alternative Rock"

I'm going to be a lame pretentious ass and quote myself.

Goth didn't have baggy pants when I was high school / early college.
They did wear all black, and often wore big black overcoats. They listened to The Cure, Depeche Mode, Green Day (that might have been because Green Day went to the local high school, same class as me), and later (post high school) - industrial. Most of them were middle class and doing it to shock their parents (who had been hippies to shock their parents - who had been into early rock to shock their parents - who had been into swing to shock their parents ... and so the cycle continues)
Baggy pants at that time were pretty much only worn by the rappers.

Those almost look like parachute pants that the break dancers use to wear.
Some of those look like identical photograph, and they just changed the colour.
Is that common?
I guess it makes sense, but the photograph then isn't of the actual pants.

If anything, those are serotonin depleting candy raver pants. Hence the draw strings for hours upon hours of dancing to bad trance.
