Company claims to produce free energy
Apparently, an Irish company claims that they've discovered a way to produce free energy. They have issued a challenge to have physicists come and test the claim, to try to get more attention for it and develop it.
This seems to go against the laws of physics. However, the source of energy isn't always apparent, so it may come to show that the energy comes from something they haven't looked at yet. If it truly is free, though, and it truly does work, then I believe quite a few laws of physics would go out the window... They could also just be making a bogus claim with the challenge just for publicity, figuring any publicity is good publicity. Still, if that were true, I doubt anybody would treat that company seriously again.
This reminds me of that perpetual motion machine somebody came up with earlier, and I'm wondering if this is supposed to be something similar, but I haven't heard about that for a while. (of course, it could also be the same thing) I'll be keeping my eye on this, in case it is true, but I'm not really expecting it to be so. (due to the whole breaking laws of physics thing) Still, with all that we don't know in the world, just about anything's possible.

If I had a dollar for every time someone had figured out how to make free energy, I could buy a hamburger (or a thousand).

Nothing like reaching out to the scientific community by publishing your miracle in the Economist.
If only they had journals that targeted the scientific community.... and if only it was possibly to conduct some sort of academic research, that could be reviewed by other scientist, and placed into one of those journals.

The principles of electromagnetism are very well known. I highly doubt this is more than a marketing ploy. The eventual refutation will get very little press and these guys will make money selling their hoax for quite a while.

Perhaps these guys developed some sort of brilliant unification theory, decided not to publish it for some retarded reason, and understand electromagnetism in a context we don't

Well, I hope it's true, but I doubt that it is. I guess we'll see.

Does this mean we will also have anti-gravity devices soon?

Not until someone invents a graviton emitter.

Re: Company claims to produce free energy
If you're marketing a product called "free energy" how much can you really sell it for?
