Just got a new car...damn insurance!

I called up my insurance company to get a quote for a new '07 Toyota Yaris, and they said I'd be paying $30 more a month for insurance.  With the gas I'd be saving over my 1992 Audi 100 CS (20 MPG vs 35MPG) the choice was obvious.  I'd be saving money bu\y buying a new car and doing the same amount of driving.  And that was just before repairs that I wouldn't have to worry about.  Then I bought the car and called up the insurance Monday to add it to my plan and remove the Audi so I could sell it.  They told me now, that I'd be spending $80 more a month!  Those bastards!  Now I'm looking for an insurance broker to get a better deal...nothing like aking a car payment for your insurance!  The car is all payed off and I'm still paying about $300 a month because I'm under 21, single and have a penis!  I know the accident when I was 17 didn't help, nor that speeding ticket when I was 18, but c'mon!  They knew about that and quoted me $30 a month!  I could see $40 or even $50 a month...that's a closer to the quote...$80 is more than double their smurfing quote!

I'm still saving money because of the amount of driving I do and the lack of repairs needed now, but jeeze!

You're under 21 and spending money on a brand new car?  Why?

That sucks about your insurance though.

Insurance companies are gangsters, plain and simple. Whatever they quote you, convert it to metric - ie, double it and add 32 ($ or %, whichever is bigger). That'll get you in the ballpark, if you're lucky. Then be prepared to be shocked when you get the bill.

Oh good lord, you have a 4-door sedan Yaris in the US. You really just don't get small cars, do you?

If you have a parent or grandparent who was in the US military, have them join USAA, then sign up as a child.
USAA is not a gangster, plain and simple.  I've had my car insurance through them for 12 years, had a couple of claims through them, and I have nothing but positive things to say about them.
up

And my insurance payments for my Celica, with collision coverage, are less than $80 per month.

Because I have the money and the VA gave me $11,000 towards the purchase of a new car.  I just saved up the rest which didn't take long, as I'm still being paid by the US Marines until I get out medically, then the government will be paying me for the rest of my life anyways.

Try cutting off your penis and see if that helps.

Grats on all the above, save the shanking from the insurance copy. Lessoned learned here: get it in writing.

No kidding.  I'm waiting for a reply from USAA and I'm calling up Farmers to find out what the hell happened.

Re: Just got a new car...damn insurance!

A quote is usually not a guarantee and having it in writing may not have helped you in this case anyway.

Mal is right, but I would contend that it wouldn't hurt...

Aha!  I called up my insurance, and they made a mistake, and it's now the original $30 extra a month that they quoted...whew!

Odds are good you'd still be better off with USAA.  --Price-wise and for service.

See, I only pay about $80 a month. But then again, I own the old beater outright and have no collision on it, and I'm 24.

Can't wait till next year - I'm hoping it'll hit $70/month. big_smile
