Recall

Recalling over a million computers... (well batteries) that can't be good.  In many ways this is more dramatic than the Dell recall as Apple has such a smaller market share and relies more on its reputation.

Re: Recall

Apple doesn't make the batteries but gets them from the same suppliers as everyone else.  In fact they are meeting with the other big laptop sellers to discuss these issues.

Yeah, it's effecting all major players it seems.  It does shine yet another negative light on the delapitated Sony though... *snicker*

Re: Recall

Isn't this similar to Dell's recall? That was caused by Sony batteries as well.

Re: Recall

good news is that I had this battery for a little over a year now, so that means that there will be more time until this next battery decides to go tits up and cost me money.

I tried that, but it appears to be down at the moment. I verified that with others in #macosx.

Re: Recall

well, if you have a powerbook 15 in., and the battery model number is A1078 and around serial number 3k521, there's a very good chance your battery is one of the ones recalled. But there are alot more than that.

Re: Recall

Apple.com appears to swamped right now. AppleInsider.com has posted the serial numbers:

Looks like I have one good battery and one bad battery. Ohh well, it'll be nice to have a fresh battery with maximum charge capacity.

Re: Recall

do we get to keep our old battery...I bought the Alum powerbook when it first came out so I am a 2003 model I believe.

I will keep using the recalled battery too if I get to keep it.

Apple will take it back.  And why use a battery that might blow up in your face?

All computers have problems. Macs just have less. (Much less.)

And the fanboys here outnumber you a trillion to one. big_smile

I'm conflicted here: Sad that apple has to recall all these batteries, but happy that I'm getting a new one.

That's a feature.

Yep, it was a feature when I saw a Dell catch fire at a University Trade show 2 years ago. The guy was telling me how the laptop was crunching the numbers (a 3D stitching program) faster than the G5 beside it when it caught fire. Basically it just went whooph and the tablecloth and everything caught fire. A couple of ppl had enough sense to move the G5 b4 pointing extinguishers at it.

lol

It has happened before.

Apple 5300's anyone?

Oh and I know a guy who set his bed on fire with his Apple yo-yo! Replacement adaptors that catch fire for ones that might catch fire. Go figure.
