Question about Airport via ethernet

Sorry for the crappy headline.

So I got an AirPort Extreme so that everyone in the house could share a dialup connection, plus a printer (and my PowerBook can do this wirelessly big_smile )...

Everything is working great.  My brother's iMac and my PowerBook do everything as it should.  The problem I am having concerns my Dad's iMac 333.  The AirPort is set to not connect to the internet unless it is told to connect.  I set it this way because my brother and I have plenty of apps on our computers requesting a network connection, so it would constantly be dialing in.  It's easy enough to connect via an AirPort card.  However, my Dad's iMac does not have AirPort, and is connected via the ethernet plug.  It works fine if my brother or I connect to the internet, but I have not found a way for my dad to connect to the internet when no one else is connected.  The iMac is running 10.2.8 (I cannot get anything else on it, since it does not have a DVD drive, and it will not start up from an USB device).

As a side question, I am also having issues getting that iMac to print.  When I try to add a printer (I am trying to remember, since I did this a month ago), I think the add printer option does not show the USB printer connected to the base station (it works on my PB and my brother's iMac).

Actually, now that I think about it, the iMac 333 couldn't even connect to the base station to administer it.  So something is not right.

So if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great!

Thanks! smile

Re: Question about Airport via ethernet

Awesome, thank you for the link!  I will test that program out (it seems to be working for me on my PowerBook, which is a good sign).

I will investigate the rendezvous/bonjour thing.  I thought that 10.2 was the first to support these....

Re: Question about Airport via ethernet

Yeah... So that makes me wonder what's going on.  I just installed 10.2.8, so it's a fresh system...  I wonder what could be wrong?  And I am still having problems configuring the AirPort from that computer...  There has to be something wrong between the ethernet cord and the AirPort base...

BUT... The modem connect program works good!
