Best scam ever.
What's even more awesome is when people stick those things over their internal labels, covering their ESN or IMSA or any other pertinent information I'd need for warranty repair or whatnot. I hated those things.

Flip phones make so much more sense, the screen is protected, and it folds up to more easily fit in your pocket.
I would tend to agree. The screen stays nice and keylock is a non issue. Moreover, hanging-up and answering the phone feels a lot better.
That said, we all know Apple doesn't give a damn about preventing screen scratches. Otherwise they wouldn't be using the same crappy polycarbonate they've been using on the iPod since day one.
A bar form might also accommodate an iPod-like interface better

I would step down from my 20GB iPod to a 4-6GB iPod/Phone if I could - one less device, a device that integrates natively with the Mac, it probably has a mac-like or iPod like interface, which is proven. I'd be happy. I've had both Motorola and Nokia phones and neither one has a good interface.
Mostly though, it would be the consolidation of two devices into one that would be nicest. So long as it was a true iPod replacement and not a 100 song joke.

My internal antenna Nokia tends to get a decent signal so log as I'm not in any buildings where they totally overdid the Faraday effect. Even then it usually picks of some sort of crappy signal.

I vote for bar style, as they are generally thinner in the pocket.
Also, there is no flipping mechanism to break.
IMO they also look better.

It's really very easy. I don't have any issues at all.
Also it auto answers as soon as you flip the phone open - no need to press talk.

I don't get where people think a flip is easy to break.
Now, if you were like one of my idiot coworkers and would open it up where it's "half shell and place it on the table face down, where a wrong elbow movement would snap it in half, then yeah. I see where you're coming from. Otherwise I've owned dozen of flips of varying styles and have messed with hundreds more without breaking any. Heck, I snap open the lid of my Nokia with the twist of a wrist when removing it from my pocket, and the lid is heavier than the base, and it's yet to even crack.

Re: Apple cell phone is real and ready for production - analyst
I have a Samsung flip, and it's rock-solid. I've had it for like 3 years now, and no problems. I'm confident I could drop it off a 3 story building on to grass, and it wouldn't break.

Samsung flip phones IMO are the best flip phones. My flip, my sister's, and my best friend's have all taken crazy beatings and they are still holding up great. Plus they are just great phones! The UI is awesome plus they are small and thin when closed.

It's not a joke on "look how the XBox flopped!" it's a joke on how huge the xbox is.
It's a 4chan meme where someone says something is HUEG LIEK XBOX.
The 360 may make profits in 2007. Let's hope that multibillion dollar gamble does pay off. If anything, Microsoft can afford to stay in the game longer than anyone else.

which is what i thought when i got my n91. course, unless the battery lasts - and not just in the specs - then it won't really be worth it. i like the n91, but use it more as a back up, in case i my ipod runs low or i forget it.

You'll be fine. Even if Apple did release a phone, last thing I'd want would be the 1st gen of it.
And I just now read your second post, so that this maintains some sort of new info, I'm going to add: The 91 is a beast and is like electronic sex. Enjoy.

MVNOs have saturated our market within the last year and none have been runaway hits. And who Apple would probably rather be in bed with, Sprint, isn't allowing any additional MVNOs to operate on it's network at this time.
Regardless, it's still a dependency issue that Apple would want to shy away from.

Re: Apple cell phone is real and ready for production - analyst
I don't own a cell phone. Everyone EVERYONE I tell that to looks at me like I was missing an arm. Is it so hard to understand that I have no social life outside my computer?
Seriously though, I've never needed one. I don't go out and all my local friends are online anyway, it's easier to email and IM. But now that I'm trying to "break out of my shell" as the people at work are putting it I am getting more social. So now I need one. Everyone else in my family has one.
I just don't know what one I'd get. Seriously. There's too many. I'd rarely use it. So I wouldn't want to pay out the ass for a plan or something.
I've been looking into a prepaid phone for now. Like a TracPhone or Net10 (Which both are recommended by various people including cow-orkers.) since they'd be fairly cheap to start with. (A TracPhone costs $20 to start and I could pay $20 every 60 days and probably never use up all 60 of my minutes for the two months. I don't see myself using it too much at first.)
My problem with cell phones and it's been mentioned is the UI. They're far from intuitive. Every goddamned cell phone I've picked up is different. I don't know where to find anything on them. This is where I think Apple could succeed. If it's anything like the iPod UI it'd be terrific.
I too would want a flip though. Just because. Also, I love custom ring tones. I want my phone to play something so obscure that every time it rings at least one person in the room will say "Hey, I remember that!" I want a different tone for each person (Like I can do with Adium). I love that stuff. I've just never needed it before.
I just had to call someone and she kept cutting out. I was on a land line and she was on the cell. I hate that.

I have a prepaid Virgin Mobile. $15 every 90 days if you auto-top up, $20 every 90 days if you don't. I use the former and what VM calls the Nokia Shorty. Very simple, and still overkill for my needs. I basically use it to tell the time, to make the occasional (and almost always very short) call, and sometimes I use it as a flashlight (it has a little LED at the top which comes in handy at times).
