Re: PLEASE NOTE
it does, it looks like a Honda
And aside from the "Engine Immobilizer(nazis)" and the heated mirrors doesn't seem to off allot more either.
And what about the fuel economy.

Re: PLEASE NOTE
A HONDA?
Well I was thinking more Va-Va-Voom than Zi-Zi-Zimmer. You *do* realise that perhaps the greatest insult you can make to a European car designer is to say "meh, it looks like a Honda".
And as for fuel economy... well who gives a flying smurf about that? This thing weighs 1,690kg and has a stunning 2.0 ltr engine. It is, to my mind, the most beautiful hot hatch on sale in Europe at the moment. But if you must know it has a combined fuel economy of 31.7 mpg.

Then maybe they should design it to look better than a Honda.

Re: PLEASE NOTE
I thought the older Clios were way spiffy, but c'mon. It looks like just about every subcompact car out there. Mazda3, Rabbit...hell even a Scion or that Aveo thing. You can't get away from the comparison.

Re: PLEASE NOTE
Hmmph, well the Clio and Golf (Rabbit) are hardly in the same league*, but to compare it to the Mazda 3, Scion or Aveo is hardly fair. In truth I'd never heard of the last two, and had no idea what a Mazda 3 looked like until I googled it. They are just not in the same league, IMO. I dunno, maybe I just "get" the Clio because I'm a cool Brit that digs French style. After all it is an Anglo-Franco hybridy thing. All American and Asian cars look totally horrific to me. I just can't get them - few weeks ago I was sitting in a Civic Type R thinking "Oh my God!" - nice looking car, but when sat inside, despite the over-compensating groovy light show, I felt about 60 years old. I want to have a car that's both cheap and makes me feel like a kid.
The Clio ticks both those boxes.
tF
*Edit: I mean a top-end Golf is far more expensive, and I'd sure hope it to be the better car.

He's right, tho. Renault's design team totally lost it some years back.

I'm no Renault fan. I've always considered myself partial to the VW family, but after disappointing experiences with Seat, VW and Audi, I just don't have faith in the brand anymore. I'd be interested to know when you (or others) feel they "lost it"... only because I thought early Renaults were pig-ugly - its only the 3G+ Clio and new Megane that I think look good.
I've been searching for a car that visually excites me for AGES. I practically loathe all new cars on the market at the moment. I was nearly sick in a Nissan Micra the other week - Japanese car interiors are loathsome!!

My friend drove a Renault and it was the biggest piece of crap ever. The engine was literally taped and tied together when she finally sold it.

Yeah, but when was that? My family had a couple Renaults in the 80's and they were also crap. They were probably built in the US.

Re: PLEASE NOTE
I hate hatchbacks they look weird - too high and short - look like they are going to tip over.
The only exeption to this is the older honda CRX's and civics.

Ya, Saturns are decent enough cars but definitely made for the kind of person who thinks vanilla ice-cream is too exotic.

Ya, GM certainly bastardized that line of vehicles.
That said, if you're into convertibles the Sky Red Line is solid sports car that'll hit 60 in 5.5. The Preveu is also a neat concept.

Well it *is* still a Clio

Not yet, alas I only bought my current car 1 yr ago (to the day, almost) and so I'll probably keep that for another year at least just to get my money's worth from the warranty (I am now on first name terms with nearly all the receptionists and mechanics at my Seat dealer, eugh). I've driven the older Clio Sport 182, and while I loved it, I felt sure that it would be the death of me. My daily commute is along tight, twisty lanes which have atrocious surfaces, which for over half the year are wet and covered in leaves or mud. The new 197 model is supposed to be less twitchy, and I prefer it aesthetically. I don't want to drive one yet though, because if I really like it, then the next 12+ months are going to be hell.

Meh, so long as the car gets me where I want to go and gets good gas millage I don't really care. I think the ions look really cool too…

Re: PLEASE NOTE
As far as hatchbacks go, not much beats this.
http://www.subaru.com/shop/overview.jsp … PORT_WAGON
Some debate whether it's a hatchback or a wagon but it close enough for me. It's got the power, the AWD (best in the world), the safety and the looks. I own two, one red, one blue.
