Hate meters.

Approaching 60 on my mage, and will start endgame raids with my guild shortly.  Since I don't want to steal aggro from the tank and all, I was wondering if there are any good threat meter addons that don't come loaded with keyloggers.  Any suggestions?  Are they even useful?

I love the powerglove.  It's so bad.

Re: Hate meters.

Your tanks need to be running it as well for it to be accurate, but here is the best (public) addon as far as threat is concerned that I know of. Enjoy.

There is no other threat meter. Give it a lot of love.

Re: Hate meters.

hate meters are totally useless.  The don't take the de-aggro ability of specific classes into account.

FOR INSTANCE

if a rogue has the book for feint...whatever from AQ20, the meter doesn't know what rank of feint was used by simply reading the combat log.  Also...if a rogue never learned feint above rank one....it would assume the highest learnable rank.  and so on...and so forth...also, distance plays a role in aggro as well as buffs.  anyone that buffs another player creates hate for himself.

So in conclusion...hate meters do not work.

Re: Hate meters.

KTM meters are months of work in progress, and it assumes the lowest rank of feint, not the highest. I've ran the add on since we were working on Vael, over a year ago. They aren't the end all be all exact answer to threat questions, and position in comparision to the tank, but they are a very accurate estimate, and a useful tool for any dps class, as well as a main tank. iBubba is correct however, it can become a crutch (I haven't had it installed since we had Nef on farmstatus) and it is best to learn to "feel out" aggro with your usual tank(s), and the class you're playing.

Re: Hate meters.

yea, we haven't used them since MC, they just didn't work properly.  Also, with all the aggro wiping bosses post BWL, it's mostly useless anyway.  A good example is Skarem (i dunno how to spell it) in AQ40.  He wipes aggro whenever he blinks.

A good way to tell if someone pulls aggro is if the target's target changes...and then that person immidiatly dies smile

We discourage dicursive now as well...as it will be useless after the expansion (and possibly the next patch).  It is quite the crutch.

Not sure about AQ40, but I do know that the writer of KTM, specifically incorperated aggro reducing abilities of the bosses in Blackwing Lair (ie Wingbuffet, Blastwave, others..). I'd imagine the same is true for AQ40, but I'd have to look. Watch it some time on onyxia, if your tank fails to dodge, parry, or block a Wing Buffet you'll see his number drop significantly (due to it being a % of your total threat loss not a set value), although if he's on top (and he should be!) his bar won't move.
