Protected music into Final Cut...
Info:
I have some legal music in my iTunes Library, bought and protected by Apple's DRM. I am making a movie in Final Cut Express HD, and it needs background music.
Now the problem:
How do I get the music into Final Cut? 
Any suggestions?

Just because you purchased music on iTunes it doesn't give you the legal rights to use it in your movie. When you purchased the song, you purchased the right to listen to it. But if you want to add it to a movie, you need to purchase the "sync rights." Depending on the song and where your film will show, this can cost anywhere from $300 to $100,000.
You can use it as TEMP music, but it will need to be replaced later when you show your film. NAPOLEON DYNOMITE had numerous well known songs in it but when it came time to exhibit the film, they found out that to license all that music it would cost well over $500,000.
So this is a warning. But to use the music temporarily, burn it to a CD then re-import it as an AIFF file.

Yeah, I know. But is it really that bad if it is just for personal use? Thats the one reason I truly hate DRM. But I'll try Audio Hijack.

he's justmaking a home movie. Burning and re-importing itself is not illegal (correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't believe it is). are they going to sue him because he showed a movie to his family and friends that had a song he didn't have the license to use?
... actually, knowing the RIAA, they probably will.

Apple specifically says you can use your iTunes Store bought music in your iMovie creations, so I don't see why using a different program to make the same home movie would make a difference. Only thing is you have to got through an additional step to get the music in since iMovie can use the AAC format and FCE can't.
It's all about the Hamiltons, baby.

Well, I used Audio Hijack that worked like a charm! Thanks!
It beats my older method of playing the song in iTunes, and plugging in headphones, and holding them up to the microphone to record into Garageband!

I just realized this. You can open them in iMovie, and export the movie as an AAC.
I never noticed that!

Syncing any copyrighted music to pictures or video is technically illegal without rights or permission; but I seriously doubt anyone is going to get busted making a home movie with it.
