Something wrong with Firefox 2.0?
I went to download 2.0 RC 3 from the optimized builds site and notice that an optimized 2.0 is up. So I go to the official Firefox site and it says that its at 1.5.0.7 but a hunch I copied and pasted the download link and changed the 1.5.0.7 to 2.0 and it appears to have downloaded.

Is there any reason they're developing 3.x and 2.x simultaneously?

Re: Something wrong with Firefox 2.0?
I just fired-up Firefox 2 (RC2) in Vista, which proceeded to tell me it had downloaded RC3 and that I should restart my browser. Which I did. And now the About Mozilla Firefox window just says 2.0 - no mention of beta, or RCx. (I can't remember if it was like this before).

Re: Something wrong with Firefox 2.0?
I downloaded my Firefox 2.0 for Mac from here -
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla … mac/en-US/
and it installed over my 1.5.0.7 and it is running fine. But who knows? As the 'official' Firefox site is still (as of 1452hrs EST) showing 1.5 for download, maybe there will be a tweak or two left before the 'real' version goes up - one assumes - later today?

I downloaded 2.0 and it doesn't work at all. There's a big square that covers most of the window, shoving the scroll bar all the way to the left.

Eh, crap. It's an extension issue. One I really, really like: Tabbrowser Preferences.
At least I've got it worked out now.

It thought that it worked, but only succeeded in ruining any usability that 2.0 had. Remove it, and FF works again.

For the same reason they were working on 2.x and 1.x simultaneously. Ultimately, there is an overarching plan of features, some of which get slated for 2.0, some of which are too drasitc or foundational to make it into the current version, and are thus pushed to the next.

Also, if you just focus on one version, you wind up putting off ever getting the next version off the ground and therefore put off implementing any huge new features. You wind up just making .1 upgrades for much longer, and then when a new competing product comes out you have to rush to start and finish one that's better.
In short, makes the whole thing much easier.

I occasionally get sites where the background images don't seem to mesh together properly, looking like a badly assembled billboard, much like the one in the Zune billboard thread. Very infrequently, but still happens once in a while.

A lot of myspace themes seem to look like complete smurf in FireFox.
Then I fire up IE in Wine - and realize they just look like complete smurf on any browser ...

Re: Something wrong with Firefox 2.0?
Tabbrowser Preferences 1.3.0 now works on Firefox 2.0
Its OK, but I prefer Tab Mix Plus (which doesn't yet) as it adds some of the more obvious tab features - like allowing a Bookmark to directly open a new tab. Not sure why Firefox (and for that matter, Safari and IE7) have such rudimentary controls of their tabs as their default...

Well, it makes more sense now. But not when they were in the middle of 1.5.6. They were working on all three, 1.5.6 & 2.x and 3.x.

I've found that Tab Browser Preferences (including version 1.3.1) works with Firefox 2.0 on Windows XP just fine, but not on Mac OS X.
I guess oatie and I will have to wait until it gets fixed.
EDIT: included version number 1.3.1.
