So, is this because Israel thinks our Executive branch will no longer be able to handle it for them due to Dems taking Congress (and Reps being seriously peeved at the President)?

If Iran would tone down the rhetoric a little, it might help.  But being dedicated to wiping out Israel and pursing nukes isn't a good combination.  Can't really blame the Israelis for being nervous.  Of course the option is on the table, how could it not be?  If the rest of the world fails to act (very likely, unless the new Sec-Gen will help the UN grow some balls), then Israel really doesn't have a choice but to do whatever is necessary to prevent a nuclear Iran.  But they are talking about remaining calm and working with other nations.  I don't think an attack is imminent.  The thread title embellishes just a little.

It's not Olmert making these comments - nor Peretz or Halutz.  He doesn't necessarily speak for all Israelis or even those in the Israeli gubment.

Probably because with Iran, it's a largely empty threat.  With Israel, not so much.

I do expect better from a supposedly pluralistic, peaceful, secular, democratic country to behave like something approaching a civilized way.

By the way, the Israelis clearly don't take Iran terribly seriously -- the guy in the story I quoted made the Iranians sound like some sort of tourism issue.
