Borat beaten in New York
No, literally.
BORAT star Sacha Baron Cohen was beaten up by a passer-by after he tried to play a prank as his alter ego.
He approached the man and said: “I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with it.”
But the bystander didn’t see the joke. He took one look at Cohen and punched him in the face.
The funnyman — known for his Borat catchphrase “Jagshemash!” — yelled for help but was slugged again and again.
He was rescued by actor pal Hugh Laurie who had been on his way to a New York bar with Cohen.
Laurie rushed to help and pushed the man away as Cohen struggled to his feet. A pal of Cohen said: “Sacha couldn’t resist playing the fool as Borat, but picked on the wrong person.
“I guess this guy thought he was being attacked by someone unstable and lashed out. Sacha is very lucky he didn’t get a much worse beating.”
...
Studio chiefs have warned Cohen to avoid pretending to be the spoof Kazakhstan TV reporter on the streets. Since the film was launched he has only appeared in character while promoting the movie on American television shows.

Is it horrible that I find it hilarious? If you go around screwing with people long enough, someone's going to get angry. And that someone might be violent or unstable. He's lucky the dude didn't have a weapon.
Edit: Why, oh why, did you not use the headline from the actual article, "Borat spanked by angry Yank"? So much more amusing.

New York seems to be the popular place for these types of stunts, probly because of the widespread hostility and general unfriendliness. Wondershowzen is a great example. smurfs on the street getting pissed off and swearing at puppets makes for top notch television. This was bound to happen eventually.

I can't say that I'm very surprised. 
It's New York. In his movie he almost got punched in the face several different times in New York.
That's a town that really values being left the smurf alone in public.

HA! I think they changed the title after I read it - it's the kind of title you'd remember seeing, but I don't remember seeing it.

He nearly blew his Daily Show appearance by acting offended when Jon told Borat he was Jewish. It's one of the few times that I've seen Jon act so uncomfortable. Borat recovered a bit by asking if Jon had had an operation "to remove his horns".
Yeah, if you can get J.S. ready to bitch-slap you.....

Sacha Baron Cohen comes from an orthodox Jewish family, he's not actually an anti-semite. It's just an act that actually ends up making fun of anti-semitism.

God, people are so damn gullible.
Lets not mention that Jon has interviewed Sascha Baron Cohen before, and probably knows him in real life. Or that Jon knows that Sascha is Jewish.
