DV => WMP compatible format
Hello,
I am editing a video for a buddy who needs to play it in a powerpoint presentation.
I have tried so hard and am unable to find a program that can convert anything iMovie, or Final Cut Pro into a Windows Media Player compatible format.
I have tried flip4mac, but can only get half my movie exported, and have tried making it double the size to trick it, but it apparently knows what I'm doing.
I also have tried a program called ffmpegX, but I have had limited luck, as it has sooooo many different conversions, all of which I can't decode. Here is a sample option I have:
"MPEG4 [.AVI] (ffmpeg)"
What does this mean??? I am quite knowledgable with video formats and things like or so I thought, but I can't decode this program. Also, whenever I select some formats and click encode, it gives me a zero kilabyte file.
Also, for all AVI types, it gives me a video track w/ no audio, and blank audio track.
I have tried exporting AVI right out of final cut, but I cannot get a reasonable quality"file size ratio. What do I do???

Re: DV => WMP compatible format
Have you tried Quicktime Pro? I know you have to shell out some $$ for it but it is worth having around.
Exporting from Final Cut, don't use the Cinepak codec when for AVI output, it is very OLD. Try DivX but make sure it will play on your friends PeeCee. If not, have him install the DivX codec.
Ciao for now!

Re: DV => WMP compatible format
QT Pro is included with Final Cut Pro, so he shouldn't need to buy it separately. A coworker that works on the web side in our production house has been using flip4mac with very good results. He added flip4mac export settings to Compressor, which was a bit painful to do, but now it works great.

Just make a high-bit MPEG or Muxed MPEG-2 file. MPEG will play right away, MPEG-2 might require a codec download for WMP. Or Use Flip4Mac and make a native WMV Codec video for him.
