iSexLife

Apparently refurbished Macbooks from the Apple Store come with something a little extra in the UK... sweet sweet porno.

An Apple customer was shocked when he bought a Macbook from the London Apple Store for his 11-year old daughter, and the desktop was full of pornographic JPGs.

Re: iSexLife

yes!!!!!!, of course he complained. Completely aside from the fact that it was for his kid. I as an adult am not interested in that, and wouldn't want it coming on a computer that's supposed to be clean.

Re: iSexLife

I was joking. I actually would've complained too. I actually would've been pretty pissed off, and I'm a college kid.

I'm surprised this kind of thing got by Apple. I would've flipped a smurf if I'd bought it for my kid and that had happened.

Re: iSexLife

Ha ha, that'll be great for PR.

Does Apple not wipe the drives before they ship it off again? I'd be pissed. (and not just because it was porn)

Alright, now, who wants to be transistorized?

Re: iSexLife

Well, one of two things happened:

1) Someone turned-in a laptop with a desktop full of porn (which is weird / funny), and Apple didn't wipe it.
2) Apple wiped it, and some employees staring downloading porn in the back room.

In either case, some kid just got a crash course in sex ed.

Re: iSexLife

I find this too much to believe.

They were on the DESKTOP! The frickin desktop! Unless the Apple Store guy thought it would be funny, there is no way this actually happened. <red flag 1>

Then, he wipes the hard drive BEFORE dealing with Apple. <red flag 2> Why would you do that?

But maybe he took a screenshot? If so, it isn't too hard to put the images on your desktop, then take a screenshot. <red flag 3> I think he dragged the images, and was planning on showing Apple, but realized they could figure out when they were put there, so he just took a screenshot (if he did) and is hoping to get free iPods, MacBooks, and iCash out of the whole thing.

Seems too easy to be faked, and a simple plot to get millions. (Maybe not millions, but...)

I can see you've never worked in IT. Stuff like this happens.

It's not uncommon for people to send-in or return a computer for some sort of critical issue aside from harddrive failure. You replace the component, boot it up, and low and behold -- it looks like someone was playing the skin flute before the machine crapped out.

Hell, this is mild.
I once inherited a computer and a bag of 50 Zip disks from a family member who lived alone and died of a heart attack. Not only was the desktop full of porn, the Zip disks where pack to brim. I doubt that's the way he wanted to go out. lol

Or who knows, it could've been a prank or some employees screwing around.

I could be a scam, but certainly plausible to sell a refurbished pornintosh.

Your right, I have never worked in IT before, but the way it was described, I imagined the desktop, default aqua blue Tiger, covered, completely, from one corner to the other, across the 13.3 inch display, in icons, which to me, would be very noticeable. Especially if they were named with explicit titles.

If this is how the computer came, I doubt it was from a past user. It was probably some guy thinking it would be funny, but not realizing his mistake.

Re: iSexLife

How will there ever be peace on earth when people like him has to make such an issue with some bullsmurf. Reinstalling the system takes 30 minutes, and should always be done on a non-mint computer anyway. Oh, someone forgot a checklist point. Lets make a hell of it.

product design portfolio / brothers art
Hackintosh C2Q 2.4Ghz - 4GB - GF9800GT - Mac Pro case
PowerBook G4 1,33Ghz - dead ram slot Apple won't acknowledge

Re: iSexLife

New or old I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS reformat a computer when I first get it. Additionally it seems to me if I were buying a refurbished computer from a brick and mortar store, I'd insist on checking it out before I left the store.

Re: iSexLife

Sounds like someone was "testing" out the new laptop and forgot to cleanup his trail before giving it to the daughter, and had to come up with a great cover story for the wife. . .

If it was a true Apple Refurbished MacBook it would boot to a clean system and the setup assistant . . . as did the one that was delivered to me today and all other Apple refurbs I have seen.
