I finished my Ph.D.
Well, I've been waiting to post this for a long time.
I defended my dissertation last Friday, and submitted it to the graduate school on Monday. The degree is done.
Many thanks to y'all MAFers for providing hours of, shall I say… "study breaks." Reading the drivel here on Unplugged (and occasionally posting some myself) has been a welcome alternative to all the academic writing that I've been churning out. It's a guilty pleasure which I'll continue to shamelessly enjoy.
Just wanted to share the news. Merry everything, folks.

Good for you! BTW, I finished my bachelor's degree earlier this year.

Based on the findings of the report, my conclusion was that this idea was not a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious.

Congrats! I just defended last May. It's quite a relief, isn't it?
Now all you have to worry about (if you're going into academics) is tenure and promotion. And whiny students.

Re: I finished my Ph.D.
Congratulations. I just submitted my writing requirement for graduation from law school (similar to a doctoral thesis, I imagine, though probably not as lengthy). I just have to get through one more semester of classes (and, of course, the bar exam) and I'm an attorney. I understand completely the relief (joy will follow, I expect) at having this under your belt. For me it's akin to making it to the bathroom just in time (if you know what I mean), and finding ample TP to take care of the situation.
Kudos to you, Dr. Mmonte. May the life that follows shower you with blessings and a sparse smattering of whiny students, should that be the direction you take.
What was the Ph.D. in, again?

Re: I finished my Ph.D.
nice.
a real accomplishment.
now all that's left is getting a job...
and finding out the schooling has taught you little that is practical.
so i assume, that soon you will meet a lady you'll pay homage to every month...
Mrs. Sallie Mae.
she's the worst.
looking back @ my years in school...
i prize the experience itself.
that is what expands your mind.

Philosophy. That's what the "Ph." stands for. Philosophy of what, though?

So, a Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics has studied the "Philosophy" of unstable elemental isotopes?
I'm sorry for not knowing this. I'm from a poor family. I had to stop after B.S. to go to work.

Re: I finished my Ph.D.
That's a bunch of B.S.
Yes. The "Ph." in "Ph.D" stands for "philosophy." The "D." stands for "doctor," but they're not able to prescribe meds. Damn it.
