Many thanks for the kind words… and congrats, too, to the other recent or soon-to-be graduates (adam, Vegas, and freecat!).
The degree is in music education. The dissertation was about correlations between and among rehearsal achievement, teaching effectiveness, and students' pre-existing musical skills. It was sort of inspired by the "no child left behind" (and earlier) notion of holding teachers accountable for student achievement. Lots of statistics.
The degree should have some beneficial effect on pay, though a small percentage increase on a modest amount is still a modest amount. (This is higher ed, after all.) It's certainly necessary for tenure.
Most academic doctorates are 'Doctor of Philosophy' degrees.
