Re: Apple Loses iPhone!
First off, Apple's "iPhone" is and has been a long standing rumor and will continue to be so until hard evidence actually comes to light or Apple makes an announcement. It's name was never official and it's status was always disputable
Secondly, Apple's "iPhone" is rumored to be a cellular phone. Linksys's iPhone technology deals with cordless/wireless VoIP, which is a separate technology and will not work outside one's home network. Apple may have gotten pwned on trademark however.
Third, Linksys's iPhone still a pretty cool thing regardless of what happens with Apple.

Your explanation does not make me feel better. Who will market an "iphone" like Apple would introduce to the world an "iPhone".

Re: Apple Loses iPhone!
My point is is this has no bearing on Apple possibly releasing a combination iPod/Cell phone. Apple just can't call it an iPhone, That might not even affect Apple as no one knows what they might have intended to call any such device by that name if they were even working on it.

Re: Apple Loses iPhone!
Apple did file for a trademark under that name and because people are actually interested in what trademarks and patents are filed by Apple it has been used by those at large since that time. However since Cisco dad already filed of that name, which no one had picked up on because Cisco stuff is more useful rather than exciting. Since no one followed the trademark past the the filing no one caught on to the fact Apple never actually received the trademark, so no ones knows if the Apple cell phone is actually real or what other trademarked or as yet untrademarked name Apple might use. The newest rumor seems to be the iCell. I like iMobile better personally.

So, um, how is it different than the Uniden cordless phone I have plugged into my Linksys vonage router?

Vonage apparently is working on (or has, I don't know) VOIP technology that doesn't constrict you to your home. You just need to be in or near a router - anyones router - for the tech.
It would probably only work in office buildings that paid for the service, and I don't see much incentive for office buildings to do so - but THATS cool technology (if it works).

I don't know what Vonage can possible work on. WiFi VoIP phones already exist. Gizmodo seems to mention a new WiFi VoIP phone every couple weeks. If you want to use Vonage or Skype on a phone outside of your home, you can already do that. You can buy VoIP phones that also supports a land line, VoIP phones that support WiFi, even VoIP WiFi phones that also support GSM.
For example, this D-Link phone will work with a WiFi router in a Starbucks, and it will double as a cell phone once you're out of range from a router.

From what it looks like, Cisco's iPhones don't support WiFi, which is lame.
IMHO Linksys products have become more more lackluster ever since the Cisco acquisition.
