i bet it will just be called the ipod, but it will have phone cababilities. like the video ipod, just another ipod model.
It would make sense for Apple to stick with the iPod branding in some form or another. That's clearly the strongest brand they own.

Apparently some of those iPhones will work with WiFi as well as WiFi and a land line.

Re: Apple Loses iPhone!
iPod Phone? iChat Mobile? Newton Phone? TRiPhone (The real)
They could always just release the iPhone and argue the point. iPod, iPhone, iMac, iPhoto, iMovie, iChat etc. They could get nasty an say that they were camping on the name. Or get really nasty and say that it is infringing on their iPod product.

Re: Apple Loses iPhone!
I think it's a point of interest that Apple never really had the "iPhone" because the name was trademarked in 1996.

Re: Apple Loses iPhone!
Trademark can expire anytime or be maintained indefinitely.
For example Max, if he is trademarked, has been slated for trademark expiration. Mickey Mouse has a trademark protecting him for as long as Disney plans to utilize him. (Yes he also has an unethically extended copyright as well.)
If that 1996 trademark was filed my Cisco, I'd say they're finally making good on it. If it was filed by some on else I'd say that party let it drop and Cisco scooped it up.

Re: Apple Loses iPhone!
actually it was filed by a company that Cisco bought after 2000.
