Maybe Susie can drop them by on her way from work? I mean, you're practically neighbours, no?

Re: Received Mac|Life No. 1 - post your comments here

So, a California, nay, San Fransisco based magazine changes its name, format, staff, everything, and still some redneck in flyover country gets the premiere issue before the website moderator that lives a couple of blocks from the office, and even the freakin' editor in chief her damn self?

Maybe fido's got a point. Something's terribly amiss, here.

Just tell her to stop by and drop off the missing issues or you're gonna ban her sorry ass from these her forums.

Well despite my uneasy feelings about the new magazine (which I haven't seen yet), I enjoy seeing our feedback appreciated by the editors.

Re: Received Mac|Life No. 1 - post your comments here

My subscription ends in April, so I have about 2 issues to peruse before I decide whether to renew or not. Right now I'm leaning against not renewing, but maybe when I get the latest issue, I will be persuaded.

Once again, I won't miss the 'new' max - he reminded me too much of Jack (from Jack-in-the-Box).

Re: Received Mac|Life No. 1 - post your comments here

I have enjoyed MacAddict since way back.  I felt it was at its peak when Droo did the disc, and the staff videos were fun and quirky.  The covers were awsome at the time as well, hell award winning if I remeber correctly.  cool

I got to know Droo, Niko, Nikki, Kris, Narasu, Ann, and later Rik.  All of whom I respect, enjoy talking too, and joking with.  lol

For those of you that miss Max I will posted an image of him I did for the magazine on my site and will try to do one more before I leave for Macworld Sunday.  big_smile http://www.hardcore4mac.com.  Some of the Expo coverage I reported for MacAddict in the past is in the Quicktime Gallery... enjoy.

There is nothing wrong with missing the past as long as it does not prevent you from being open to enjoying the now or being hopeful about the future.  smile

The only point fido has is the one on top of his head. I thought you knew that?

Spirit was crushed; now is fading, But I want to help make things right.
Because I can see and I can feel, and you can see and you can feel
So why don't we both either stand up and fight
Or at least together we'll call it a night.

Somebody jumped the gun, then -- I saw Mac|Life #1 in the airport yesterday (the peel-off "Addict" sticker over "Life" is clever), then got disappointed when there wasn't a copy in my mailbox yet.

Re: Received Mac|Life No. 1 - post your comments here

I recieved my copy today (1/3/07), and my first reaction was negative, because upon opening the issue, I was not presented with 2... or 4... but 6 (count 'em—6!) full pages of ads before the table of contents. roll

...and those pages are all 'thicker and larger' than the old magazine's pages, so it probably took me a longer time to get through them wink

Anywho, the layout is okay... but I have trouble sometimes differentiating between ad and content pages. Most of the content is similar to MacAddict content of late, and is sometimes a little too blasé (like MacWorld) for my liking, but I don't quite like the layout. Of course, I'll have to live with that, because it can't be quickly and easily changed.

Regarding the 'thicker pages'—YIKES! The cover is so thick I have to crease it to get the magazine to stay open on my desk while I peruse the articles. The pages are quite fine, though. They're just as easy to tear out so I can save certain articles I like.

Finally, I went online to www.maclife.com, and didn't see the live website, nor could I access the new 'software vault.' I hope those are available soon (I guess after MacWorld?), because I want to see how it all looks.

Goodbye, MacAddict - we truly loved thee!

I still listen to 'New Idea' - from one of the early discs! I used to have a copy of every issue and disc back to issue 2... but I lost some of them during a move/reorganization two years ago. Now I have all but the first 20 issues, and I ditched some of the discs that I didn't really feel were worth keeping.

Two of my fondest MacAddict memories were:

1. Receiving a free copy of Fireworks and Dreamweaver on one of the Discs (they were older versions, but they kicked off my web-development interests).

2. Finding Max on the covers of many of the issues, and having that 'I found Waldo!' (from 'Where's Waldo') feeling. smile

You're welcome. It's too bad MA decided to stop doing the indie music inclusion on their Discs a while back - that was pretty much the only reason I popped in the Discs! Perhaps they will someday have something on the 'online content' section that was like that... who knows.

Speaking of indie music produced entirely on Macs, check out the band I helped record (called the 'Priestie Boyz' - 'priesty boys' and 'priestie boys' were taken, so we had to do the 'z'...) at the Seminary I attend: www.priestieboyz.com

I was all excited today when I checked the mail today and saw the words "Mac" peaking out underneath... I ran inside only to discover that it was Macworld.  (my dad got me a subscription for xmas)

Actually, that's one of my plans for the new MacLife.com -- but at launch it won't be there 'cause I'm spending every drop of my mental bandwidth (a "drop" of "bandwidth?"  hmmm...) just trying to get the site's basic structure and content ready for the launch on the 9th.

I would, however, be interested to know if anyone other than geerlingguy would be interested in downloading tunes from MacLife.com.

Me definately yes. There used to be some really good tunes on those discs way back though it was a bit hard to get them off the disc until someone made the "MacAddict music extractor" or whatever it was called. How'bout a poll to take the temperature on the interest?

Btw is there or is there not a cd with MacLife? Though I can't say I've checked the last cd's I got (I sort of lost interest when you dropped the standard staff-vid), I'm still interested in know this since as far as I understand the price that I've payed for a twoyear subscription of MacLife is the same as for a twoyear sub of MacAddict. Just wondering...

By golly, they are! I have no idea what happened... I had to move the song files to a separate server last month, but I have moved the files back to the mac.com server now, and the previews should work now.

The album's available through iTunes as well (there's a link on the site).

And finally, I agree with the others who have stated they would be in favor of a music preview section of the site - perhaps it could spotlight groups/individuals who have made music on their Macs?

No CD anymore - they're now going to have an 'online resource' thing similar to what MacWorld does (although I hope Mac|Life's version will be more useful, making it better than simply browsing macupdate.com.

I did like receiving The Disc with MacAddict - if nothing else, you get a free CD sleeve case that you can use to stick a burned CD into... cool
