Wireless security at hotels
Am taking my laptop on vacation at a hotel that has free wireless internet access. Should I be concerned about my signal being picked up by someone else? Is there anything I can do to protect my information?

Firewall - ON!
Un-needed services - OFF!
When connected to a secure website your info is encrypted.

Re: Wireless security at hotels
If you are really paranoid and have a desktop machine running MacOS X 10.4.x at home, you can set up a Virtual Private Network tunnel by following the instructions here. The VPN tunnel is encrypted before it even leaves the antennae, and can be set up to route all of your internet traffic. It won't be fast, because your home computer will be acting as a proxy, but it will be secure.
