The 6360 did not come with an ethernet card.  You have 2 choices.  You can buy an ethernet card for your PCI slot or you can buy a ethernet card for your CommII slot where your modem is.  The comm slot ones are generally a 10T speed.  You can find 'em cheap on ebay.

Re: ethernet on a 6360 performa?!

OK......does any Mac PCI ethernet card work in it, or does it need a special brand? Also, I can't find a CommII  slot ethernet card on eBay either, so is there any other placce you would recomend for purchasing that piece of equipment? I had no idea that there was a PCI slot on this machine, and would love to put a faster video card in it as well....so any suggestions for that would also be very helpful, and I would be terribly grateful as well!!!!

Thanks again!

Try searching eBay for Comm II instead of CommII.  Searching eBay is quite an art.  I know someone who got 10 of those cards for peanuts because they were listed as Comm 11 cards.

Any mac ompatible Ethernet card wil work fine. I would go with a Comm slot card - leave the PCI slot open for a video card. (with a whopping 4 MBs of vram or something.)

Re: ethernet on a 6360 performa?!

That Twin Turbo would work fine. The major problem with 6360s, 6400s and 6500s, IMO, is that the Rage 128 and Radeon-based cards don't work in about half of them. This leaves TwinTurbo cards like that one, or a flashed VooDoo3 card as your only options... A VooDoo4 PCI would work too, if you can find one.

I think I heard that it was the funky memory controller used in those machines. Anyway...

Re: ethernet on a 6360 performa?!

Yeah, i agree with what everyone said here. Unless you really, really want or need a 100BT ethernet connection, get the CommSlot II card. That way, you can save your only PCI slot for a video or USB/FireWire card. However, if for some reason you absoultely NEED 100BT ethernet, then you may have to get a PCI card, as 100BT CommSlot II cards are very rare and expensive. IIRC, the only company that made them was Farallon, and most of the people who got them will probably hang onto them, because of how hard to find they are.

Re: ethernet on a 6360 performa?!

I have a Dayna Communications DaynaPort E/CS-T. It has a single RJ-45 jack.

It is a working Comm Slott 10BT Ethernet Card and I have working drivers as well. I had this running in a Performa 636 CD that was upgraded with an 68040 processor from a Quadra 630 (the Performa originally had a 68LC040 processor with no FPU). The card works perfectly and was pulled from the same Quadra that supplied the processor transplant (bought at a flea market for $10).

I can't find any documentation that this will work in a Comm II slot as my Performa had (RIP little buddy) just a Comm slott. I don't know what the difference between the two are.

If you can find out if this will work for you, email me and we can work out a way to get this to you. I can pull it out of the closet and blow the dust off it  big_smile

Comm Slot I cards might work in a Type II Comm Slot, but Comm Slot II cards definitely won't work in a Type I. Try signing up for one of Lowendmac's mailing lists - those guys are really geeky.

Re: ethernet on a 6360 performa?!

Comm1 cards are NOT compatible with CommSlot IIs. They aren't even physically compatible, and by that i mean that the card won't physically fit into the slot.

okay, didn't quite remember, since I've never tried it. Some things like that are backwards-compatible, but not this I guess.
