Can't open optical drive tray in OS 9

Recently purchased a used QSilver.

This G4 QS has that black apple keyboard with a power on/off button located just between but above the numbers pad and querty keys. There is no eject key on this qwerty.

When booted into OS X the F12 key opens the optical drive tray.

Much to my chagrin today when I booted into OS 9 the same key, F12 will not open the tray.

So I was unable to load the tray to install some applications.

The optical drive has a very very slim face covering which when open allows the tray to come out.  I opened the face coverying but there is no way to get at the open tray button or the paperclip hole.

There used to be a programme I used on my performa to eject the tray ( the button on the face of the mac stopped working ) but I can't really recall the name of that programme.

Help please.

In the applications folder, look for a folder labeled Apple Extras, and look for a program called eject.  Ideally, you'll want to map the f12 key to run that program, but double clicking should open the drive.

It's a paradox of how sharply dull I am.

TVM : Excellent road map.

There is no such programme in that folder. Incidentally,I did use the OS 9 installer CD that came with this QS.

Anywho, this gives a good clue to look for this programme at version tracker or even macupdate.
