It's official: Obama enters run for presidency
who hoo!
Will he melt quickly or not? Should be fascinating to watch him and Hillary debate, that's for sure.
I predict he'll end up on the ticket as VP with Hill though in the end. OMG... it's like a Benneton ad!
Barack Obama joins White House race
By WASHINGTON, Jan 16 (Reuters)
Democratic senator Barack Obama of Illinois jumped into the 2008 White House race on Tuesday, promising to bring Americans together and “change our politics” with a campaign that could make him the first black president in US history.
Obama, a freshman senator and rising party star, formed a committee to begin raising money and hiring staff to campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination to succeed Republican President George W. Bush.
He plans a formal campaign launch in his hometown of Chicago on Feb. 10.
“Our leaders in Washington seem incapable of working together in a practical, common sense way. Politics has become so bitter and partisan, so gummed up by money and influence, that we can’t tackle the big problems that demand solutions,” Obama said in a video message announcing his bid.
“We have to change our politics, and come together around our common interests and concerns as Americans,” he said.
Obama, 45, is the fifth Democrat in a White House race expected to be led on the Democratic side by Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, who has not said whether she will run but has promised an announcement soon.

While I'd be voting for them, I somehow don't think a women for President with a African-American as vice president would do so well in the polls.

Re: It's official: Obama enters run for presidency
Edwards had already set the stage for early Presidential hopefuls. It could be that we are going to start having contenders at earlier points in their careers - less experienced, but also before they are jaded and burnt-out.
Might not be a bad trend and I think it's premature to predict failure.
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

I can't get over the fact that Obama looks like tanned John Waters.

Me, I'm equal opportunity. 'Feel free to browse' attitude. . I'll consider all alternatives. Having said that, this guy has to do lot (from my perspective) to absolutely disavow his 'mentoring' by Joey2Face. He'll have to openly make statements decrying the vile views dispensed by the junior delegate from CT.
Could get a nice start by calling for a certain committee to follow thru on oversight and issuing subpoenas (promised last spring- lately disavowed/recanted/reversed) relating to Gulf Coast inaction.
A plus would be he'd raise his national profile in fighting for 'the people'. Audacious!

Does anyone else remember that Chris Rock bit about how there's never going to be a black president?

It's too early to tell of course. Dean was looking good until he crashed and burned. There will be plenty of opportunity for hopefuls to insert their feet into their mouths. Hell, we're still a long way from primaries.
I just hope that Dodd, Biden, Clinton, Obama, etc. will actually take time to pay attention to what is going on here and now in the Senate and not start "phoning it in" because they're too busy campaigning. There's quite a few important items that need to be fixed before '08 (not to mention that it would look good for them, especially Obama since he doesn't really have much of a record).

Re: It's official: Obama enters run for presidency
oh. I'd recommend Sharpton enter the fray. Just on principle.
Feingold has taken his name off the list.
Last I heard, it was reported - but not confirmed, that the nominee from 2000 (my man - G08e) has already declined to run. Still not sure, but his looming presence off center stage would be 'inconvenient' for Hilary at least. (I think she should take the advice Micheal Dell gave Steve Jobs. But what do I know.)
Other than that, I say the more the merrier. There's plenty of material to hit outside the Dem field for a while. 'McCain Doctrine' anyone?
Which will also highlight and contrast with the other guy's (GOP) offerings. Always a good thing.
Reading hither and yon, lots of Bluebloggers have nits and picks about all the various contenders...but I venture (looking at the lay of the political landscape as of today) the 'perfect candidate sketch' for the Dems would be the ideas, policies and passion (and name recognition) of Ted Kennedy - whose name is NOT Ted Kennedy.

Well, it's happening already. First, the speedo pics (but much better than Paul Tsongas). Now, apparently he's a filthy smoker!

Yeah, they published photos of him on vacation in Hawaii. He told people to stop looking. I think he was embarassed.

I was thinking the other way around, have her be his VP so that no racist cracker would take a shot at him.

She could always give him a knob shine in the Oval Office. Y'know, as payback to Slick Willie...

Wait a minute. I thought conservatives say Hill's a lesbian because of her years at Wesleyan. If she wants Monica revenge I'm hoping for a dalliance with a female intern... hopefully Mexican.

It's just too hard to keep track of who's who. I'm just going to sit and watch ET and forget about the complicated stuff.
