In fact, Alan "smurf Insane" Keyes during Obama's candidacy said that Obama was not an African-American because he wasn't descended from slaves, but voluntary immigrants.

There are probably white Americans who were born in Africa and then immigrated. They are not called "African Americans" either.
Heck, my brother-in-law was born in Africa and now lives in Canada. He's whiter than I am, by skin tone. And while I'm slightly olivish, there's no way in 100 years that anyone would think that I'm anything other than "white". But, no one calls him an "African Canadian".

I remember hearing about a gentleman who was talking about how the politically correct term for his race was now "Native American" and he said he actually liked it better when white men called them "Indians" because at least in that case it preserved the fact that the people labeling them had gotten it wrong.

Damn it, I was on another forum talking about Obama, and I was keen to get peoples opinions on the guy, if they thought he would have a chance, what his strategy would be, etc. But instead the discussion turned into talking about if he was african-amiercan or not.
So I come here, to a real political forum looking for some relevant discussion.
And I get the same thing!
I could bore you with a philosophical tirade about freedom and tyranny, or try and explain to you what new horizons are suddenly open to me, but I doubt you would understand and if you did it might frighten you. That amuses me.
