Re: Long Distance College Relationships
I've been in the same relationship for the past 4 years, it wasn't until after college that we had to move away from each other. Yes it sucks, but you eventually get used to it. And you get really really....ummmm lonely, but again, you get used to it.
As far as regular phone calls and whatnot, we usually don't. Just makes you miss them more.
I say, if you get the hots for someone else, it's ok to look, but the first moment you feel you want to move on, it's only fair to tell your other immediately. Otherwise you're just wasting your time.
You can do it if you love them, but only if'n you love them a LOT. It's hard. I don't wish it on anyone.
Alright, now, who wants to be transistorized?

Re: Long Distance College Relationships
I have been in one for about the last year. I guess one of the things that makes it a little easier for us is that we met long distance, so its not *that* weird of a feeling for us to be apart. Considering that I am stationed in Germany and he lives in the states, it has been difficult at times to spend a lot of time talking to eachother, but we worked out our work/sleep schedules to give us a few hours a day to do stuff "together".
Dont let statistics or peoples advice get you down. If it works out, great and congrats. If it dosent, dont necessarily take that as a sign that everyone was right and you shouldnt try for something special again. Good luck with your relationship and regardless of what happens, dont forget that the most important thing is that you are happy.

Re: Long Distance College Relationships
I had a long distance relationship in college. My grades and social life were terrible, and we wound up splitting up after everything.
More than ten years on and I still want that part of my life back to do over again. It could have been so much fun AND I could have had better grades.
Then I had a long distance relationship once I was out of school. That ended a little differently: now I'm married to her.
I'd still recommend against long distance relationships in school.

Had a long distance relationship. We are VERY happily married now and coming up on our 6 year anniversary. They are tough but sometimes they work.

Re: Long Distance College Relationships
Shadowless, i think i might be in the same shoes as you..
My girlfriend and I have been dating for over 3.5 years, and this fall we will both be going to college, up to 8 hours apart, depending on where i go. Although we love eachother very much, i think that we may seperate during College. This way we will each have our own freedom and be able to do whatever we wantt without the responsibility or restraints of a relationship. My grandparents also dated all through high school, but during college they broke up. They didn't talk or meet eachother at all during college, but then they met at a reunion. They have now been married over 50 years.
I personally think it's best to take a break during college so that way you can enjoy yourself and not have to worry. If things are truely meant to work out, then it will at some point, but i dont think it's necessary to have a long-distance relationship through college.
hope this helps

Re: Long Distance College Relationships
College is the best place for a breakup because you have so many options around you to pick from for replacement. Never again in life is it easy to have thousands of attractive people around you with free time and little to worry about.

Not so easy when you are living at home commuting 30 mins to school. Add to that the fact that the school year is now over, and everyone'll be coming back to the hometown, including her. Wonderful.

So what? Quit wallowing in it. Find something else to do. Stop thinking of yourself in terms of this bitch, and start thinking of yourself as a hot piece of ass that chicks wanna get with.
