Re: What was your first Mac???

My first mac was a Performa 577 with 8 megs of RAM, which I promptly opened and maxed out at 48 megs (if memory serves me right).

For what it was it ran quite well, it had OS 8.1 on it when I gave it to a family member in 2002. Of course once I gave it away the CRT went out on it like 3 weeks later and they brought it back. It sat in a spare closet until last year when I used it for target practice one afternoon. Its gone to the computer graveyard in the sky now.

I was knee deep in windows development (had been for years) when I got the mac so I never really used it to its full potential. I also was doing a lot of embedded development and the mac was not very compatible both in software and Peripheral
hookups for that line of work. Mostly a few people in the family played some card games on it and my nephew did some limited web surfing with it.

I bought a Mac mini about 3 months before the intel announcement and gave it to my nephew who is enjoying it to this day.

Re: What was your first Mac???

It had very little RAM and since it was made during the 3 months that computers were made with 3.3v EDO, RAM was always amazingly expensive.

But it worked, if slowly.

Re: What was your first Mac???

I first used Apple ][s in school.
My friend's dad (a teacher) had an LC, it was cool.
My brother-in-law got a 7100/66 when they first came out, I loved it.
In college, always used the Mac labs.
Finally got my very own, an iMac Rev/A.

My first Apple was a IIGS ROM 01
The first Apple I used was a //e in grade school. (I liked them a lot better than the TV-as-monitor and software-on-cartridge TI-99s) Later the school got a few Laser IIc clones. They were nifty.

Re: What was your first Mac???

For some odd weird reason in early 2000 I got in a nostalgic mood and remembered the old Macs tat our school still had in 1998 when I graduated and wanted one so badly. Of course back then I didn't know what Mac was what, just that there were black and white ones and a color one that I got to use for a few minutes one day. So I went on this newfangled website called eBay and bought myself two Macs. The first one to arrive became my new baby. A beautiful bouncing Macintosh SE.

I still have her as a centerpiece in my room. I will never get rid of it as it introduced me to the Apple side of things and helped liberate me from Windows.

I really wish I had kept my first real modern Mac though. I still miss it. A Ruby red iMac DV+ that had just been released at MacWorld NY 2000 that summer.

But the SE will always be my first. And favorite. The design is just so awesome.

I forgot to add that I also owned a mac SE, although it was not my first. I picked it up at a garage sale for like $20. It was an SE/30.

I agree those were awesome designs and the machines themselves were built like little tanks.

Re: What was your first Mac???

My first Mac was an Apple IIe in grade school.

The first Mac I ever actually owned was a summer 2001 iMac (Indigo) 500Mhz G3 that I bought used at a pawn shop in late 2001. Six month's later I sold every PC I owned and never looked back.

Since then I have owned a Powerbook G4 1.25Ghz, an iMac G5 1.8Ghz, iMac G5 1.9 Ghz (iSight), iBook G4 (Late 2004), iBook G4 (Early 2005).

All of them are still running even the G3 with 10.3.9. The only problem I ever had with any of them is the Capacitor issue the first gen. iMac's had. The problem was corrected for free by Applecare,...

I wouldn't use anything else.

Generally, the IIGS booted white-on-blue as default.
Also, Escape Velocity was never made for the Apple II line.

My mistake, I can't remember the exact name. But, you were a little stick figure who bounced around a window, and you had to hit spacebar when your character was in some cross-hairs and catch him. Does it ring a bell?

And doing a search for that to make sure of the spelling, I discovered that Stunt Copter was ported to OS X!
