Why iPhone doesn't make any sense.

I just wanted to briefly drop a note. I bought a Motorola cell phone 2 years ago that featured the following:

- Built-in MP3 music player with 1 Gig. of storage expandable based on flash card size.

- Built-in camera that could record video, play back video and do still shots.

- Built-in speaker phone that could also blast music

- Basic movie player software and web browser (maybe not as advanced as iPhone's browser but hey this is a 2 year old phone!), along with Bluetooth & other features too numerous to name.

Oh yea... it is a phone too!

Price: -$50 (Meaning I got the phone for free, and got $50 cash back back for signing up with T-mobile).

I still use it today -- and I want to pay $500 for a cheesy gay iPhone because?

That is often true, but never with Apple products.

I'll bet at least half of you have abandonned the $4000 macs you bought in the last couple of years and switched to a Windows XP based laptop from HP or DELL.

You said "gay".... that is so 90's....

..and apparently all iPhone ramblings must go here.  But that is subject t to change without notice.

..and you'll need to explain your use of the word "cheesy".  I don't think many share your sentiment.

Oh I get it... you're a troll.

My bad.

Re: Why iPhone doesn't make any sense.

The iPhone holds 4-8GB of videos and music.  So complete TV shows, movies and a lot more music.  Try that on a 1GB flash card.

The iPhone has a 2 megapixel camera, better than most other phones.  No word yet on video however, so I'll give you that one.

The iPhone has a speaker, but unless you're very inconsiderate, you'll probably want to use headphones - or better speakers.

The Safari browser will be much more capable than what you have in a typical cell phone.  Same goes for the movie player.  The UI for most phones kinda sucks.  The iPhone also has BlueTooth built-in, and WiFi too.

The cheesy gay iPhone will also do push email (gotta spring for a Treo or BlackBerry for that, no $50 version of those) with HTML formatting intact.  It will browse entire photo albums.  Google Maps an internet searches will be much easier.  Not to mention quickly checking stocks, weather, etc. via Widgets.  So yeah, smartphones can do a lot more.  The iPhone doesn't really compete with your garden variety cell phone.  It's designed to compete with the BlackBerry Pearl and Palm Treo.

Re: Why iPhone doesn't make any sense.

um. ok several things wrong with ur post.
And yes I know what I say is biased towards Apple, but it's true.

1. The current best motorola phones (RAZR, or any of the other 4-letter phones) only have those features. And what exactly is your definition of blasting? For all I know the sound volume isnt that great and the quality.. I'm not even gonna go into that.

2. Movie player? Hahahahahhaaha I'm not even gonna go into how lame a movie player on a uber-slow phone with a  1" screen is.

3. No motorola phone offers the stability and expandability(?) of Mac OS X.

4. Every other feature you mentioned is available on just about every other phone out there.

5. I'm not trying to say that I worship the iPhone or that you should. I'm just stating some facts.

Good summary. Let's all leave it at that and stop feeding the troll!

Re: Why iPhone doesn't make any sense.

I will admit that I'm not keen on Safari for the iPhone.  I'd rather have content that's formatted to be viewable on the smaller screen than to be tapping and dragging my way around a full-size web page.  It's a nice option for sites that don't offer mobile versions (but with CSS, there's not much excuse for that), but I don't need to see all the pictures or rich media on a tiny screen.

You are not getting the point. I am talking about a 2 year old Motorola phone that I got for free (and $50 cash back) that basically has all those features *(and NO it is not a RAZR - it is a V360 which came out long before the RAZR).
And you are talking about a product which has not even been released yet!
My friend just got an HP PDA phone at a fraction of the price of what iPhone is going for.  And it has all the bells and whistles like 2 megapixel camera, bluetooth, wifi etc.
And quite frankly I hate Cingular and I would never sign up with them again either way.

Re: Why iPhone doesn't make any sense.

By the way. The HP PDA phones which are already available on the market already have a full-featured web browser.

Re: Why iPhone doesn't make any sense.

Yes, a lot has changed in two years.  The point is still that the 4-8GB of flash memory in the iPhone is much more than you would get in pretty much any other smartphone.  Perhaps RIM, Palm, Moto, etc. will up the ante by the time iPhone ships, or not.  Still, much greater capacity, larger screen than your phone.  More features, higher price.  A BlackBerry/Treo/Sidekick/Q/etc. would cost more than $50 from your carrier today.  The v360 isn't a smartphone, you're trying to compare apples to oranges here.

And call me crazy, but the iPAQs don't appear to be much less expensive.  It also has a fraction of the storage space, you have to use a stylus (not always convienient), has a smaller screen, etc.

I wouldn't go with Cingular either.

Re: Why iPhone doesn't make any sense.

why do people feel the need to post a bunch of smurf about stuff they don't care about.  okay so you don't like the iPhone, well guess what don't buy one.

or better yet post your dislikes about a product that hasn't been released yet in the rant room.
