You mean the 'month of apple bugs' that just ended?
Here is what was found and disclosed:
http://projects.info-pull.com/moab/Yeah, from what I saw of that 'event' was a bunch of bugs for software that runs on OS X. Not exactly 'Apple bugs' in my opinion.
I'm still not sold on the premise behind this event. It really looks a lot more like shameless self-promotion than actually trying to help Apple fix some problems.Only about 5 of the vulnerabilities disclosed were non-apple software. The majority of it was apple software.
I don't care if these guys are promoting themselves or whoever, the info is in the open now and I don't think how they went about it is any more shameless than the people who grandstand claiming there are no security issues at all.
The thing is that no one really goes and says there are no security issues. So yeah, they are both bad. Claiming that these guys are doing a service is just as bad as saying macs are invulnerable then. There are better ways to be handling these bugs (nicer ways). And 5 out of 30 is quite a few. I still believe they're grandstanding.

Well, in Windows defense, they did have sticky menus first.
How innovative was that?

.. and then I remember our friend Steve Jobs saying during the last X Keynote that there are "top secret" things he isn't discussing...
He probably just stole 'em from Microsoft.
Who can you trust? Nobody.

They usually are, which is why you always see a link to there after someone says something stupid.

Re: Gates lies about OSX & Vista
I saw a clip about it on one of the major cable news networks (can't remember which - I was channel surfing). Anyways - they make Gates look really bad. Reading his full comments, he does have some points - there are some things, heck maybe even many things, that MS has done right with Windows. He should just stick to those positives instead of playing this silly blame game - it only makes him look foolish.
What's even funnier to me, is that here are Gates and Jobs throwing punches about who first came up with the idea to make an OS have all this pretty & polished niceties, and Google is off in the corner doing some real big-picture innovations. I could just see Google lapping them both and come out with a browser-based OS that uses googles web-based apps and runs on 10 year old hardware, and make them both (Gates and Jobs) look silly and make software AND hardware obsolete. That would be priceless.

That make hardware obsolete junk is just Sun's line repackaged to make look hip. It didn't work then, it probably won't work now. The answer lies in the middle (between mainframes and pcs).

Maybe in 50-100 years, after we live in a police state and every single malicious action is tracked through implants to help do away with security and the subsequent finding of loop holes.
Apple and Google are probably going to take over as the primary providers in the next few years.

Re: Gates lies about OSX & Vista
Gates should buy a mac and see how it works. At least then when the next new idea for Windows comes along he'll know where it came from. Nobody wants to hear about some olden days before anybody who uses computers was born and who copied who. That journalist/interviewer sucked.
If you look around the table and can't tell who the sucker is, it's you.

Gates brought a bunch of them, there in The Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU). He knows how they work, what's in the OS, He knows what's in the Macs, who made what, and who put it out first. He just won't admit to the public.

Re: Gates lies about OSX & Vista
I love the 2 replys I found on Gizmodo's website:
DrD says:
Gates: "Nowadays, security guys break the Mac every single day. Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally
Is this his way of trying to absolve MS of their culpability in allowing millions of users machines to be compromised, their identities stolen, bank accounts and credit cards abused, the internet flooded with billions of bot generated SPAM Emails, all from machines running Windows?"
Give me one single example where someone running OSX has had malware, trojan software, spyware etc capture any personal identity information - or has had their machine taken over to perform any bot functions at the behest of a remote user?
You can forget all the cool stuff, the features, the advertising.. the lack of security issues with OSX in itself is a compelling reason for any sane computer user to ditch MS

illiniguy says:
why would he publicly dare anybody to search for security flaws with his operating system? Its going to happen, we all know its going to happen, taunting the people who attempt it is only going to make them work faster.

and they didn't even get the full story!

Since MOAB is mentioned, I will post a link to the MOAB response . . .

I don't even have a problem with that, reminds me of that fun webpage that used to be around that upon opening it in IE 5 on Windows 2000 your machine would promptly BSOD.
If these guys were remotely exploiting your machine through a link and jacking your keyring or something then I'd say maybe they are going too far. Locking up your browser ? I don't see a big deal with it. :shrugs:

Re: Gates lies about OSX & Vista
I've heard of botched installs, major driver issues, damaged CPUs, damaged RAM and a damaged GPU (my own personal experience with beta 2).
One mate had a great call, "Aero, it's dehydrated aqua." Brilliant call!

Re: Gates lies about OSX & Vista
One of my friends tried installing the Express Upgrade disc on his 2 m/o PC. It refused to upgrade from XP MCE, so he battoned down the hatches and went for the fresh install. Now his PC won't POST. He contacted his manufacturer, and they're sending out a guy on Tuesday to replace the mobo. And yes, this was a Vista ready PC!
WTF!!? I'd have assploded if installing Vista smurfed my motherboard. I can't even see how that could happen, but the manufacturer apparently implied it wasn't uncommon. Weird.
