Using a Mini for TV and Home theater

I've outgrown my Mini and will probably get an Intel tower soon.
If it is feasible and not too hard to do, I would like to use my Mini to replace as much of my TV/Home theater system as possible. I have Comcast cable with an HD/DVR and a Philips 55 inch HD TV.
Can someone help me with what I can do and how to do it?

Thanks in advance.

Got DVI on your TV? Just plug 'er in. I had to download SwtichResX to make my pbook output at my TV's native resolution, but that's it.

Re: Using a Mini for TV and Home theater

Thanks for the reply. So if I plug it in what does that give me? Can I use my Mac  remote? What will it replace? I will still need my full cable box, I guess I can dump my DVD player. I guess What I'm asking is what can I gain/lose by doing this?

Re: Using a Mini for TV and Home theater

If your mini has front row, you really wouldn't need anything else. All the content from your Mini would be playable through front row.

If you've got some need to get rid of your DVR and DVD player, the mini will do those things, but IMHO you're better off with the dedicated devices that do them better. Plugging the mini into the TV allows you to play other media. You know...pr0n, bootleg TV shows, pr0n...

Re: Using a Mini for TV and Home theater

Thanks for all the responses. I see no compelling reason to do this now. I guess I'll donate it to one of my kids.
On a side note, why didn't I get Front Row when I bought the Mini less than a year ago? I got a remote.

I'm sure you do have Front Row. Hit the button on the remote and be amazed.

Re: Using a Mini for TV and Home theater

Nope, I mashed the button 15 times and checked in my apps folder, nothing.
It's on the iMac I bought a month before.

Did you perhaps do a fresh system install at some point?

Yes, I did, but shouldn't it be on the restore disc?
