Re: Illegal immigration: Do you support it?

Illegal immigration would not be a problem if more legal Americans would work.

That's the bottom line.  Ever notice that most of the illegals are working in jobs requiring hard labor?  It's because Americans are lazy and won't work these jobs.

Take away the supply of jobs available to them, and you won't have as big a problem.

OK, then show me an illegal working in an office cubicle.  Americans would much rather have those jobs because it requires no physical labor.

Americans need to get off their lazy fat butts if they don't want the immigrants working here.

Hey, my neighbors are from Canada, and they're... well... harmless, I guess would be the best term... I mean, they're retired... Hey, they're Canadians, that pretty much sums up the remainder of my arguments.

Look, the point is, there are Canadians who are also Americans. Ergo, if you hate Canada, then you hate America, you America-hating American!

Wait a second. What now?

I'm only virtually in your country.

And I don't work.

Do you have a virtual passport? Let's see it!

Don't work huh? So, also on the dole!

See! I'm right! It's the Canadians bringing down our standard of living, not working at our jobs!

Illegal immigration wouldn't be a problem if companies wouldn't employ illegal workers and then pay them incredibly low wages.  The workers can't complain, or they'll get turned in to INS and shipped back.

Most Americans don't want these jobs because they don't pay a living wage.  Hell, even a lot of office jobs don't pay a living wage anymore.  Income disparity is rapidly becoming a greater issue in this country.

You want Americans to take these jobs?  Then they need to pay benefits (or we need universal healthcare) and decent wages to support a family.  But many of our good paying blue collar and now white collar jobs that people without a college degree (and some with) could do have been lost to automation or outsourcing.  And why pay more when you can hire immigrants for less.  Of course, if people were paid more, then goods and services would cost more, dragging up the cost of living, requiring higher wages, etc.

But it's not just Americans being fat and lazy.

Thankfully lawyers are always needed and our jobs won't be automated for at least another few years.

I have to agree with both of you on this, it does have a small portion of us being lazy, but also to the fact that we enjoy these low prices and not a single person wants to have to pay more then they really want.  God knows I want cheap stuff to buy, my car is cheaper because it was made in S.Korea, my electronics are cheaper because they are made in Japan, so I really don't care

If you saw the same hat one made in China for $5 and one made in America for $15 which would you buy?

JOKE.

I don't see state bars going out of their way to test and license those who don't actually live or work in the state, however...nor do I sense a change in the requirement that an attorney be physically present in the courtroom.

Thus I'm sure I'll be fine....

Which is an excellent reason to prevent lawyers from being in the legistlatures.

The law is too important to trust to lawyers, to paraphrase another saying. wink

Ok, bratboy, what we need in this world are smarter intellectuals.

Or, people who can both read and write well.

Or, all the above and they must have common sense.

If legal citizens work hard and pay lots of taxes, it just plain isn't fair that a little mexican lady can go to texas and work as a cleaning lady and live in our country for free.  That sums it up for me...

What's fair got to do with it?

It's about opportunity; those who create it and those who sieze it.

What in the world would make you think that illegal immigrants don't pay taxes?  And what would make you think that this person is living in the U.S. "for free?"

I'm baffled.

How about Americans who choose welfare over working?  They could take these jobs.  But their point of view is "Why work when the government can pay me?"

And the "outsourcing" argument is just a lame excuse so corporations can lay blame elsewhere, rather than pay decent wages in the FIRST place.
