Feedback?

www.studiomendoza.com

Ok let the critiques flow.  I’m still missing the bio page and a few little things but other than that I would like to have some feedback.
Thanks,
L.big_smile

Re: Feedback?

Did you redo this? I remember seeing the Registry.

Is this the one that was missing the page title? If it is that it's a really nice redo.

Re: Feedback?

Pretty stylish. But why did you use images for the menu instead of text?

Re: Feedback?

I like the title part, but the content area needs a lot of work. Like Donkey Butter said, I can't even tell what your site is for!

Sorry, I should have mentioned that it's a test site for my photography. Do you mean that the content area needs caption on the photos?
And should I have used text instead of images for the menu?
Thanks for checking it out, and any input would be great.smile

You shouldn't have to tell us here what the site is for. We should be able to tell what it is about from the site along.

The content area should be more than just the pics, like padding between them, and a div background image, like a gradient or something. It seems too boring.

Re: Feedback?

I still think things could be a bit clearer with your design. It's still a bit 'vague' I guess. Even something as simple as saying "my photography" vs just "photography" on the front page would help. Also, it took me a while to figure out that I needed to click on the page name in the top left to actually enter the site. I would suggest adding a text link at the bottom literally saying "click here to see my work" or something similar.

In terms of sheer look, it's fantastic. Very stylish. And your work is awesome, too. But just know that you should make things explicit, not implicit, when it comes to site design. And I'm not saying everything has to beat the user over the head - you can be stylish and clear at the same time.

One other minor suggestion - is there any way to give us even higher-res versions of your work? The big version of each image is just 250px wide - with photography work, I think you can get away with posting larger images. Users will know that they're on a graphic-heavy site, and wouldn't be surprised if a portfolio peace was large.

Fully prepped. wink   The wink is to lighten up my criticism, which you may find harsh, so here goes.

You really need to think about what it is you want to accomplish with your website. The first thing it needs is to be accessible.

When you go to www.studiomendozza.com you should be where the content is, not a splash page with another click to the main site, it's totally redundant.

www.studiomedozza.com should NOT be a redirect to:
www.studiomendoza.com/studioMendoza/First%20Page.html

Search engines are never going to find it.  Lose the studioMendoza directory, it's already your domain name, no need to make a directory with that name as well.

Things to keep in mind.  The web is NOT case sensitive and doesn't recognize spaces, so leave them out. Name your pages like you name your navigation with the exeception of the index page.

The web is about information that can be indexed and searched.  Just putting up your photography isn't going to get you any real results.  Just a bio really isn't going to cut the mustard either.  Consider actually writing about photography, techniques you use, clients you have, what you have done, what you want to do...etc, etc.  That's the type of information that will be indexed and searched quickly.  Once people find you, then the photography becomes important.

You have a good design sense, you just need to develop more content for the site.

Once you have that done, or at least an idea of how you want to accomplish that, I would then look into learning HTML and CSS, it's not hard and you'll start to recognize the gotcha's that programs like iWeb come with.

iWeb is fine if you want to mess around and throw some family pictures up, have a little personal blog or something, but if you want to represent your craft and be indexed by the search engines... then a point and click program isn't the way to do it effectively.

Ok...after going back to the drawing board, and after a lot of changes, tell me what you think, but please keep in mind that it's only a test site.big_smile
