your fav free application
there are tons of free applications from macs out so i thought we could share some of your FAVS
try to give a short discription of it and a link to it so we can download it 
my app is
Coconut Battery- appliation
coconut battery is an app that tells how much charge your battery is holding (in percent) and how much charge it is holding (also in percent)

Xmenu, XMenu brings the much-loved Mac OS 9's Apple menu back from the dead, adding its functionality to Mac OS X. Adding one or more global menus to the right side of the menu bar lets you easily access your preferred applications, folders (and subfolders), documents, and files, just like the good old days..

VLC is a must because it can play just about any format. That's a good thing. There are more (alot more) media files besides iTunes content that needs playing, and VLC allows for it.

My current favourite free application, one without which my productivity would plummet:
VirtueDesktops. Virtual desktop manager.
The rest:
1001. Desktop client for use with Flickr.
Adium. Universal IM client.
Chmox. .chm reader.
Colloquy. IRC client.
dead.licious. Verifies that your del.icio.us links are still valid.
iScrobbler. Submits iTunes data to last.fm.
iTerm. Terminal replacement.
Licensed. Keeps track of serial numbers.
OnyX. System maintenance.
Quicksilver. Uh.. it does everything.
sidenote. Brilliant little note taker.
Songbird. Media player, MP3 blog reader.
TigerLaunch. Menubar-resident launcher.
Transmission. BitTorrent client.
VLC, already mentioned.

I just use Perian and Flip4Mac, a;tough there are still a few variations of formats that can't be picked up.

You could use both. 
Use Unarc. for everything except for what you have to use Stuffit for.

Yeah, I can't wait for Spaces. Having that functionality built into the OS will no doubt provide more stability than VirtueDesktops does; but in the meantime, it's really great.

Piracy and comes with the computer, respectively.
Blender certainly ranks among my top free applications, along with Cyberduck, gvim, and Apple's developer tools. I don't think I use any non-free applications in my daily computing. (that is, assuming you count the regular apps that come with OS X as free)
