I just tried soundhack, I only have 3 out of 5 working, RTAS Pro Tools, but interesting nonetheless.

Re: your fav free application
Question to all Blender users...what are the specs on the your Blender machine, and how is it performing? I ask because I downloaded it after seeing this thread, but found it very slow and unresponsive on my 24" iMac, even with the 2 gigs of RAM. I made sure I downloaded the Universal Binary version of the software, so I was surprised that even menus seemed slow.
Is this an issue of an immature Intel build of the app, or is Blender just slow? Any ideas on how I can improve performance?

It's not convenient, it's that your install of Mac OS X is currently broken.

I am running version 2.42 on a power PC mac mini with 512 MB. It is very responsive, more so than most apple applications. I think it must a problem with the universal binary/intel version, because the Radeon 9200 is a much weaker graphics card than what your imac has.

Re: your fav free application
I really like Drop Copy
Version Tracker describes it well: DropCopy uses Bonjour (Rendezvous) technology to help you to easily and quickly share files and folders between multiple Macs across your LAN. You simply drag your files in the Finder to a hot-zone containing a list of destinations (see screenshot). This list conveniently dissapears when one is not dragging things over it. Also supports clipboard sharing and short text messages.

Re: your fav free application
Volk, Blender has a pretty good community, you can try these forums and see if anybody has an answer for you (try the News and Discussion forum).
http://blenderartists.org/forum/
There is a thread about a free hardware based renderer from NVida that you may be able to use (once you solve your problem).
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66308
This is the official developer's forum, you can try there is you don't get an answer at BlenderArtists.

I run on a Dual 533Mh G4 and it's pretty snappy for me, although I'm still on ver. 2.42, I haven't downloaded 2.43 yet.
Oh, and by the way, 24" iMac

Any examples of the amazing usability improvements from Quicksilver? So far I'm finding that anything it offers I can replicate with Spotlight or just having a clean file hierarchy.
Plus, it's currently using over 100 MB of RAM =/.

Re: your fav free application
At its most basic, Quicksilver is a file/folder/application launcher that, on my computer, far surpasses Spotlight in speed and efficiency. Again on my computer (Mac Pro), it uses a paltry 30ish MB of real memory. It is beyond its functionality as a launcher where it truly shines, with its plethora of plugins and modules. Unfortunately, I can't really comment on that from experience yet, because I haven't had time to rtfm. And with Quicksilver, r'ing tfm is very strongly advised. There are also a few quality screencasts available that would give you some idea of how to use it. Let me see if I can find 'em, I know I've got 'em saved somewhere...
Ah, here we go, the Quicksilver tutorials page has links to some screencasts you may find helpful:

Comedy gold.
Referring to Photoshop, there was the demo we could download for the CS3 Beta that had a nifty exploit, unlocking the whole program for free.
But in actuality, my favourite free program would be Darwiin Remote.
