Socketed Items
Can I put regular enchantments on armor and weapons with sockets? The socketed jewel buffs are nice but can I also enhant these items in the normal fashion?
Is anybody a jewlecrafter on Whisperwind that can cut the low level green gems (jewelcrafting 310s) for me? I'll be buying some gems for some low 60s armor I picked up in Blood Furnace and Ramparts.

Re: Socketed Items
If I recall correctly you can enchant socketed items. I've been looking for the link to post, but
I can't seem to find it now that it could do some good

Re: Socketed Items
Yeah you can enchant items that are socketed. The item level is actually determined by the sockets while the enchants/threads/patches have no bearing on the item level. You can't remove gems either, but they can be replaced. So if you had one gem in an item and you wanted to replace it, you can put a new one in. However, you'll destroy the old gem.

Re: Socketed Items
Thanks, I was hoping enchantments also worked. Between jewels and enchantments, these new items can get quite a buff.
Yeah, I knew about replacing gems destroying the original gems. No worries though. These are low 60s blue items. I won't be putting the expensive rare or epic gems into these armor pieces. The 'green' gems seem to be selling for around 3G each, a very reasonable price, IMO.

Yeah, even the vendor gems aren't horribly bad.

Re: Socketed Items
If an item has two sockets, that's it right? There's no way to add a third socket?

Re: Socketed Items
Correct, what it comes with is all it will ever have.
Another useful bit of info - your gem colors don't *have* to match, you can put any color gem in any color socket. However you don't get the socket bonus if you mismatch your sockets.

Re: Socketed Items
Well, only metas can go in meta slots. They also only work if you have the required gems in the gear you have equipped. So lets say there is a meta gem that requires a yellow and a red gem. If you don't have a yellow and red gem or some combination (for instance, an orange gem = yellow and red so you'd only need one orange) then the meta won't work, you can stick it in the slot though. Meta gems are hard to use as it requires you plan your gem usage out very precisely.

Re: Socketed Items
I made the run to Netherstorm last night. Avoiding all the 68-70 mobs as a level 64 on a non-epic mount was interesting. I only died once. My armor is now fully outfitted with appropriate gems from the etheral gem vendor, Senzik. I grabbed all the flight points along the way so I won't have to do that again.
So nobody has chimed in as having a low 310s jewelcrafter? I was hoping to use some of the mob dropped jewels as cut to make them even better. The vendor jewels are certainly nice but the cut jewels, even the cheaper 'green' jewels are better still.
Are meta gems mob drops only? I haven't found those for sale yet.

Re: Socketed Items
Meta gems are transmuted by an Alchemist, and then cut by a Jewelcrafter. Or you can purchase the (crappy) ones from the Allerian stronghold spirit shard vendor.
