iTunes 7.1 - New Sorting option
So I installed the iTunes 7.1 update, and apparently in Get Info, there's a new section called "Sorting". In one column, it has fields for Name, Artist, Album Name, etc., and then in the next column it has fields for "Sort Name", "Sort Artist", etc. I'm not sure what this does, and I can't seem to find any info on it from the website. Can anyone shed some light on what this is all aboot?

It's probably for sorting solo performers by their last names.

It is so you can force a song to be sorted with one name while displaying another
in example... "The Beatles" has a sort name of "Beatles"
another example:
I have 2 'NSYNC cds and they are first because of the ' before the NSYNC
with this new option I can put 'NSYNC in the "N"s but keep their real name.

Another example... alot of rap artists will have "featuring so and so" like "EMINEM ft. Dr Dre" now we can keep that as the artist name but have it in the EMINEM songs and not separated.

Day late, dollar short. I've already found my solution to this annoying problem. Is iTunes also going to do this to your artist folders inside the music folder?

It would be awesome-er to be able to set the Sort Artist to say, Last Name, First Name in the Multiple Information Window (in other words, on several cuts), as well as the single Get Info window. I'll be combing Doug's Applescript's for ways to change the Sort Order for multiple cuts until then.

Mine seem to get shoved into Compilations on my iPod and then I can never find them when I want to.

This new option is a great idea, but it is very poorly implemented. I have over 20000 tracks in my library, and over the years I've carefully tagged all of my music with last names first, so they are properly sorted. Now this would in theory allow me to have the artists back to FIRST NAME LAST NAME, but you cannot edit the sorting tags to more than one track at once. Do they really expect me to change the 15000 or so tracks listed under LAST NAME, FIRST NAME one by one??? Worse yet, this new feature seems to have broken previous sorting behaviours, as now all my artists beginning with 'The' are sorted under 'T'. 
At first I thought it was a bug, but even the 7.1.1 update keeps this crazy stuff. Can anyone confirm I'm not alone in this?

hi
i have this problem on my itunes, i have a lot of artist beggining with Numbers ¿ex. 50 cents, 311? and now, with the update, they have move to the end of my itunes list, they are below the Z, is there any option to disable this+ i want all the "THE" artist to be under the T, please help me, this is veru urgent
