Best Internet Browser?
Ive been using Safari and I'm happy with the set up of everything but it just doesn't seem very fast, a lot of beach balls. Anyone have recommendations for others?
BTW i tried searching for this topic cause im sure im not the first to ask it but i couldn't seem to find anything. Thanks

Re: Best Internet Browser?
I don't think there's been a thread about it in a while. Discussions (d)evolve into browser wars fairly often so a dedicated thread is usually unnecessary.
I use Safari and Firefox. Safari can be a pain and is a helluva resource hog, but Firefox can suck some royal ass too. Basically, I find that Safari performs relatively well given the resources, but is incompatible with some things (Google Chat and calendars, for example). Firefox is more compatible but buggy, especially when working in text entry fields, which is something I do quite often (right now I've got no cursor and each character seems to be popping up 2 characters behind and then positioning itself properly with the next keystroke...time to go back to safari
).
Other popular browsers are Camino, Ominweb, and dozens of others I can't think of offhand. I've heard lots of people mentioning Webkit as a Safari replacement but I've not gotten around to testing.

Omniweb has a lot of features and a pretty good user interface, especially in configuring the preferences. It looks similar to Camino on the surface.

Re: Best Internet Browser?
Speaking of browsers, is there a hack someplace to force Safari to open everything in a tab in the current window?
I seem to recall reading about this, but my google fu is weak.

Go to > Safari Preferences > Tabs. Check enable tabbed browsing.
Is that what you are looking for?

Re: Best Internet Browser?
Sort of. it works, but in Firefox, I have it set where if a web page forces a new window open, it opens in a new tab; Safari just opens a new window.

Re: Best Internet Browser?
I use Firefox 2 so I can have approximately the same interface in both Mac (at home) and Windows (at work). I do most of my browsing with Java/Javascript turned off and any page requiring ActiveX will simply be bypassed. I also appreciate the various extensions available for Firefox, specifically Adblock Plus, Flashblock, NoScript and Tabbrowser Preferences.

Re: Best Internet Browser?
I have used Firefox most of my life, but recently switched over to Safari. I think I like it better, except for the tab thing you were mentioning. I like Safari for a few reasons. 1) There are so many plugins you an get (pimpmysafari.com), 2) it's integrated with all the other Apple programs like Address Book and Mail.

Re: Best Internet Browser?
Between the free browsers I like Safari. Firefox is nice too.
The only pay for browser I would consider would be Omniweb. It uses webkit so it is pretty similar to Safari but has a lot of features if you're really into that sort of thing.

I enjoy safari and use it almost exclusively. the only down side is that you can't reorder the tabs or expose them. 2 things I'm hoping apple addresses in the next version.

Safari->Preferences->General-> Switch the "open links from applications" to in a tab of the current window.
As for me I use Shiira, Firefox, WebKit, Camino, and Safari. Camino is currently my default. I like Camino because it has spell check and other features of firefox, except it is cocoa. Safari is my second choice mostly because of Inquisitor.

Safari doesn't do that. However, if you hold down the apple key and press a link, it will open in a new tab.

Sure, Camino is one I commonly use as a backup.

I love Camino, but I've gotten really attached to OmniWeb's tabs. I use OmniWeb as my default, and Camino as my secondary.

Re: Best Internet Browser?
I use Camino. Tried OmniWeb but it'd hang upon startup. Maybe because I had 1500+ bookmarks in it. I don't bother trying it anymore. I don't like sidebar tabs, especially the way OW has it. It's a shame their developers refuse to add an option to have the tabs on a sidebar or across the window. If they're so gung-ho about having thumbnails they could still have them across the window.

Re: Best Internet Browser?
I use Safari pimped with AcidSearch, Saft, & SafariStand as my primary.
An optimized Firefox build with GrApple (Uno) theme is my primary backup.
An optimized Camino build pimped with Camitools, Camicon, and UnifyCamino is my secondary backup.
Things like Opera, Internet Explorer, and SeaMonkey are in the toolbox but only ever used for testing.
OmniWeb looks nice but I'm not getting a web browser for $15 when I already have something I like. The graphical tabs are definitely a nice touch though especially since SafariStand lets me emulate that w/o a drawer (as well as site preferences). Still I think I'd prefer graphical tabs as Tooltips like Apple demoed them for Leopard.

Read previous responses, it's been mentioned. I had it installed for testing, but don't even have that anymore. I've tried to like Opera for years. I keep installing it and I keep never using it. There's something about it that just doesn't feel comfortable to me. Of course, there are people who swear by it, I'm just not one of them.

I find Firefox to be very adequate and useful.

Re: Best Internet Browser?
Overall I like Firefox best right now. This is because I choose to require the features provided by several of the available plugins. Of secondary importance, Gecko based browsers have font preferences which actually work - with WebKit font prefs are barely suggestions.
If Firefox were to just go away I would probably use Safari with many plugins or maybe OmniWeb. Neither offers everything I get with Firefox and the plugins I use with it but either would be aceptable to me if there were no better choice.
If you just want a simple, solid browser that is fast, secure and displays pages legibly then Camino is a good choice. Customisation is a bit more cumbersome and not as flexible as Firefox and Safari with plugins or OmniWeb out of the box but overall Camino "just works".
For what it is worth, I am using OmniWeb to post this.
