Re: Was my avatar unvoluntarily changed?

I tried uploading a .png avatar, but it keeps reverting to the GIF after a minute or so.

I guess I know why mine never changed, I always use jpegs for avatars.

Yeah, my JPEG switched back as well.  This is rather annoying.

Re: Was my avatar unvoluntarily changed?

anything from 5 minutes to a few hours.
like the avatar, change time isn't constant.

last time tho. I just deleted the old one 3 or 4 times updating between each deletion.
then I put the dog up.

we'll see.

Re: Was my avatar unvoluntarily changed?

I'm testing this without an avatar and it takes about 30 seconds about for the profile page to start thinking i have an avatar again.

Re: Was my avatar unvoluntarily changed?

Ok, this is what my understanding is then. It's locking in avatars on (can't delete). It's overriding PNGs with the latest JPG or GIF that you've had and JPGs with the latest GIF that you've had. If you alter your JPG with a jpg it works and if you alter your GIF with a GIF it works. I would test PNG but the fact that I have a JPG avatar, I cannot erase tell me it would just get overridden. I'm pretty sure on could replace said PNG with a PNG JPG or GIF though. I suspect JPGs can be replaced with GIFs as well as JPGs and GIFs can only be replaced by GIFs.

Re: Was my avatar unvoluntarily changed?

Yup, and if you have no avatar then the profile page believes you either have a gif or jpg or png in the order you described. Although, it doesn't show up in posts.

Re: Was my avatar unvoluntarily changed?

it's alphabetized also.
my gifs went by alphabet.
my dog has the first letter you get to in the alphabet, the other gifs had later letters.

Re: Was my avatar unvoluntarily changed?

Your dog is 28341.gif as far as the forum software is concerned, as was your Scorpius.
My Jiraiya.jpg was and is 3062.jpg as far as the forum software is concerned, as was my Inuyasha (Hanyou).jpg. Inuyasha (Hanyou).jpg was up for a good 20 or so minutes before I manually reverted it.

Re: Was my avatar unvoluntarily changed?

Yeah the forum gives each person a unique number so you don't run into avatars over writing each other.

"The world may never know."

The earliest member not counting when the clock went whack-a-doo is biguy the mac guy who has the lowest user ID number at 18. I'd assume number 1 was what whatever engineer/administrator first set up the UBB forums.

You're asking if you have that problem, or telling us? Either your avatar reverted back, or it didn't. Only you know.
