Re: New Mac Ad - Stuffed
If you want more precision, there were 2-3 dozen trial items for everything from games channels to crippled programs to music services to internet services on the desktop alone not counting those in folders or the uncountable Compaq assistants that seemed to have no purpose other than cover up the desktop and hog resources. Considering what had to be taken out and the difficultly in in doing so, it certainly felt like one was dealing with a thousand things even if it was less than 100, which is as good a guess on what was on there as anything. Of course bear in mind the WAS a pre-HP Compaq and not one of the more restrained brands like Sony or Dell.

iWork (30-day trial)
Big Bang Board Games
Comic Life
Omni Outliner5 items. Hardly stuffed.
iWork - should just be permanent version (like AppleWorks was on many macs) but pay full for upgrade to next version.
Office 2004 is not necessary. You know you need it or you don't need it.
I can't speak to the others.
Would be nice if iMac came with Phostoshop Light (LE or whatever they call it - trial or full). Also would be nice if iMac came with a gift certificate for free iTMS tunes (IE $25 worth) and QuickTime Pro (does it?? My Beige G3 did - but I had to enter a code)
"Comic Life Deluxe" will cost you $9 to buy instead of the $29 they normally charge. You have to input your Macbook serial number to get the $20 discount. I like the program.

Aren't the last three items fully functional? I didn't know they were trial ware.

It's hard to say you have something better without someone interpreting it as smugness.
Smugness is showing excessive pride. When you show that you are proud of what you got, some people will think it was tasteful, and others will think its smug. Your one of the few people I have heard say this. Most say that the ads are very accurate and funny, which I thinks makes them a huge success.

Comic Life was either 14 or 30 day, then you have to register.

I think the whole thing is in reference to this article. They put in a WHOLE movie into a Sony VAIO which needed to be activated by PAYING. Or something dumb like that.

An old thread, but if anyone cares...
I Just got a new MacBook and Big Bang Board Games is a full version, as is Comic Life. Not sure about Omni Outliner, but am 95% certain is was the full version, maybe an older version.
Big Bang is fun, but the AI is a little on the weak side for checkers and backgammon, even at the highest level. As far as the Connect 4, I can't visualize the rows and diagonals in that curved view, so i always get schooled by the Sun (or Moon).

Re: New Mac Ad - Stuffed
I can relate to this.
When I used a PC, I got my first own computer in 1998. An Acer Aspire. It came packed with crap. Lots and lots of crap. (And I don't mean the OS.)
Over the course of the 3 years I actually used it before switching, I had to do recoveries about a half a dozen times. Now, the funny thing is when you do the recovery (Which takes about 12 hours.. on a freaking 5GB HD. For the love of Pete! I would go to work and it would still be going when I came home!) it would reflash the HD with the OS (Windows 95 at the time) and instead of putting all the trialware back in place it put a "Double-click to finish recovery" Batch file on the desktop. I smurfing fell for it EVERY TIME. This damn Batch file would unzip the trialware and throw it all back onto the HD. And I fell for it EVERY TIME! It was like a knee-jerk reaction. I see the shiny "Click to finish!" icon and wouldn't be able to stop myself in time to realize what I had just done.
So I always had to go back around UNINSTALLING it all before I upgraded to Windows 98 just to get the computer back to normal. Just because of habit.
Thank God Macs come with the OS install disc these days so I can just do an easy reinstall, but damn it's easy to forget how hard it used to be.

AFAIK those last three are registered versions. You may have to pay to upgrade Comic Life to the deluxe version or Omni Outliner to the Pro version but they are registered and fully functional.

Ok, a show of hands. How many had to get up a half hour before they went to bed, lick the road clean, dream of breakfast, etc...
We are getting to the one better stage of this thread.

Hmm.. 5 bundled-in apps that I would never need nor want.
Glad it's so easy to uninstall them. They'll be the first to go when I get my new computer. Actually, the first thing I do anyway is reinstall the OS fresh from a disc to a reformatted HD, then I update the OS to the tippity top version of everything updatable, THEN I start my moving into my Home folder with all my personal stuff. I don't "Archive and Install". I start fresh. That way I only have the OS and what I already had before. So it's like I'm still using my old computer, only newer and better.

Re: New Mac Ad - Stuffed
Sounds a lot like my new computer/drive/OS policy. I even keep the latest shareware installers archived to facilitate the process. After all why clutter the drive with installer downloads before you get everything installed.

Re: New Mac Ad - Stuffed
I keep all my .DMG's and .ZIP's and .SIT's and .PKG's too. Even though I can usually just copy the app over from the old HD, I keep them for those few apps that like to put files elsewhere.
