iTunes Plus Bites!

First impression...

[RANT]

Under the iTunes Plus tab are a LIMITED number of Artists NOT the whole EMI catalog.

If you click on a featured album like The Wall by Pink Floyd you see 1.29 per song or 7.99 album. OK thats cool.

But my favorite group is Depeche Mode (Mute Records which is a part of EMI). No iTunes love for them. And I was waiting for iTunes plus before buying The Complete Depeche Mode.

I have a support email in now.

I'll report back when I get an answer.

I might be doing something wrong, in which case any help would be appreciated.

I do consider myself somewhat Mac literate so if I'm having issues I am sure others are too.

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!

Follow up - DM is on Mute, Reprise, and Sire

Mute is EMI

Reprise and Sire are Warners

I guess Warners wins?

I was very excited about iTunes Plus... but now I'm not.

Anyone have allofmp3 vouchers?

First off, you'll find no love for that site on these boards.

Second, give it time.  There are plenty of people that don't even have their favorite artists on iTMS yet, let alone in the DRM free section.

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!

This sounds like perhaps your desired artist and producer didn't sign up for DRM-free music.  That rates a shrug.  Sorry but not every artist will grant free reign to their tunes.

And even if they did I'd half way expect EMI to phase in the catalog a chunk at a time.

That last part was a joke... I wouldn't use these forums to find stuff like that.

I am disappointed with iTunes though. And I'm sure I'm not going to be the only one. Not Apple's fault I know... Rage against the RIAA only growing.

ehh, DRM free offerings will grow with time. That should be expected.

Support the limited DRM free options and more will come.

I think patience will be rewarded in this case.  I'm hoping a year will make a dramatic difference.

Yeah, I would say getting your panties in a wad over what goes up the first day is a wee bit premature (or immature, take your pick).

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!

1.  Is there a way to upgrade only some of my previously purchased songs to iTunes plus?  There are some songs that I've purchased in the past that weren't for me and I have no use to redownload them again.  I was half hoping for a moment apple would check just the m4ps in your library.. but they check your history.

2.  when I decided I'd rather not care about those few, i opted to upgrade, only to get this message "The item you tried to buy is no longer available.  the availability of the item changed while you were using the store.  the same item may be available with a different price or elsewhere on the store"  well. they won't let me change the list so as to not include this item and now I cannot buy any of them.

iTunes 7.2.1 on friday!!!

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!

Yes you can upgrade for the difference of the price. But the song has to be available in the iTunes Plus section. Not much is there so that feature is going to take a while.

And that second problem sounds more like they're messing around with the iTunes Store inventory than a problem with the software.

I haven't upgraded yet so I can't help you but I bet there is an option to do individual.

Which in no way discounts what I said. Let's say they put out 2.5% of their library every week over 40 weeks. In the long run, it's still putting out 100% of library. It's just an incredibly annoying way of doing it.

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!

Glad to see I'm not the only one underwhelmed.

and PARIAH: Why release a service if it DOESN'T work? What other services exist that are released but do not work the first day? And how many of them get slammed for being an unfinished product?

I love my Powerbook, my Cinema Display, My iPods (including a 1st Gen), and my AppleTV. All are great products "right out of the box".

iTunes Plus doesn't seem so great "right out of the box".

Just looking for that insanely great experience that I'm used to.

Well, you're the victim of unrealistic expectations then.  iTunes Plus is not an Apple product, it's someone else's product sold through Apple, and is not under their absolute control.

If an "insanely great" experience is what you're after, I would definitely suggest that you do NOT purchase an iPhone.  Apple is going to learn a valuable lesson about having to rely on crappy third party "service" for their products.

Nah.... A phone that has 100% compatibility with my Mac? I've been wanting that for a long time!

I knew I was going to buy an iPhone the day it was announced! I'm even breaking my contract with T-Mobile. Great customer service by the way, but no phone that is Mac friendly. I have a Pearl but Pocket Mac doesn't work exactly the way I'd like. T-Mobile choices are Blackberry's, Sidekicks (NOT Mac compatible), and Windows Mobile.

I'll get the iPhone the minute the AT&T store opens.

Besides... I bought an iPod right away and I remember the whole argument that it was too expensive at the time.

But I digress... iPhone and iTunes Plus are two different products.

I still say iTunes Plus is an incomplete product. Apple should have had all of EMI ready to go and should be working on Indie labels now.

I'm sure Apple has all the albums in Apple Lossless... why not add all the EMI artists to a playlist and import them to 256 AAC... Apple could have the entire library done within a few days.

Of course I have unrealistic expectations... after 18 years of NOT being disappointed by Apple any one would have high expectations. wink

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!

I would give the whole thing time.  Just like how some albums come out as Album only, then later they are released as individual songs, and how the entire iTunes catalog grew over time (such as an artist would be available, but not all albums).
