Because it's not a new service, regardless of the name it's just an addition to the already existing and working just fine, ITMS.

Give it time. I'm sure as time goes on and Apple adds more music and artists, other artists will follow suit. It's not going to magically be your entire library. Only 8 of my 210 songs were updated. I'm sure more will come.
210? Holy crap! I can't believe I've bought that much from iTunes since April 30th, 2004!

iTunes Plus doesn't seem so great "right out of the box".
Why...because not everything that you hoped and dreamed would be immediately available isn't listed?
How does that equate to it not "working?" Would you have been more satisfied if they simply made NOTHING available until they were ready to make EVERYTHING available?

unfortunately, three songs off the last Badly Drawn Boy Album just won't finish downloading. so that sucks, and is weird.

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!
CDs as a hard copy are still more accessible, cost about the same as DRM free music off iTunes Plus, and are a higher quality recording. Addiionally you physically own the music. Can't go wrong with it.

1. Is there a way to upgrade only some of my previously purchased songs to iTunes plus? There are some songs that I've purchased in the past that weren't for me and I have no use to redownload them again. I was half hoping for a moment apple would check just the m4ps in your library.. but they check your history.
If they can check your history, then how come they don't let you re-download your library?

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!
No, 7.2 is simply compatible with iTunes Plus service
Yes, the service is enabled & disabled separately via your iTunes store account information preference page.
That is entirely up to you.

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!
I can't say how iTunes Plus is yet, but I'm guessing a lot of people are taking advantage of it as the store is too slow to use right now. I only checked one album - Supertramp's Breakfast in America - and it didn't show any iTunes Plus version but as others have said the full rollout may take some time. We are talking about (I'm making a random guess here) tens (hundreds??) of thousands of songs. Just getting the purchase orders approved for all the extra server space must be a daunting feat of bureaucratic legerdemain.
But iTunes U looks good - Elementary Greek!!! Finally!! Twice I tried to sign up for Greek in when I was in school, only to find out it wasn't offered that year. Apple has fixed that problem. Big shiney peppermint Kudos.

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!
Some pages were slow to load, but everything worked pretty well for me. I only have one album and a handful of tracks from EMI, and none of them are worth upgrading.
I did buy The Good, The Bad, and The Queen album which I've been holding out on buying until the DRM-free tracks were available, and it downloaded without a hitch.
So as far as I'm concerned, everything worked the way it was supposed to save a few delays from (supposedly) heavy traffic.

Eh, I'll still be buying my music on CDs. I want a physical copy in case my drive gets hozed and so I can encode at whatever bit rate I want (typically 192 kbps).

Re: iTunes Plus Bites!
The free download looked interesting this week, and when I selected it, a window opened that said it was available in the DRMless format, did I want to try it? I clicked yes, and just redrew the same page, and d-loaded the DRM'd 128kb one, no mention of upgrading iTunes.
However, when I clicked on the 'learn more about iTunes plus' in the newsletter, it explains that an update is necessary.
Very unApple-y way of doing things, methinks.

well, its been two days now, and i still have yet to fully finish downloading three "upgraded" tracks from Badly Drawn Boy's Born In The U.K. album. i just shot off an email to Apple about it. we'll see what happens.
i am not a happy customer right now.

I can't upgrade any of the 8 tracks, I have available. It's claiming the item is no longer available when I try to buy them all and it's not giving me the opportunity to even try for the songs individually.

I distinctly remember mentioning that the logistics for this sort of mixed DRM/DRM-Free service would be more difficult than just DRM or non-DRM and more or less someone telling me I didn't know what I was talking about. Sadly he was right about me being off in my assessment in one respect. I couldn't have imagined it would be the smurf it is currently.

Goddamn! Finally!! There's $2.40 well spent. All 8 finally downloaded in all their 256 kbps glory.
This by far was the least coordinated Apple rollout I've seen in a long damn time. I notice some slick features though. First off it doesn't just trash or duplicate your old iTunes purchases. It gives you a choice of letting it delete or having store the old file in a folder on the desktop. Secondly it transfers certain relevant pieces of info from DRM to DRM-Free like lyrics, ratings, sorting info, playcount, gapless, etc.
They sound so good that I'm gonna have to rerip my CDs now.

I am having the same problem. I do not want to upgrade ALL my music to iTunes-Plus. Just some of them.
THERE SEEMS TO BE NO WAY TO DO THIS. Lame.
BTW: I can't believe I have 740 downloads from the iTunes store since it opened.

I have the studio albums but the original cd's were lost about 3-4 moves ago (or with an ex). Getting all of the studio albums remastered plus the extras (some of which I have some that I don't) is just icing on the cake. 644 tracks for $170 is a great deal I just want 256 not 128. I actually dont care about the drm but I do care about the bitrate.
