Re: Game movie craptacularity continues, intensifies
Being into the holiday quarter, a visit from the Ghost of Craptacularity Past:
Ever wonder what Dennis Hopper thinks of his role in the universally reviled Super Mario Bros. movie? Fifteen years after the fact, the Academy Award-nominated actor finally spilled his guts on last night's Late Night with Conan O'Brien. When asked if he regretted any of the nearly 150 films he's been involved with, Hopper responded with this anecdote about his son Henry:
"I made a picture called Super Mario Bros., and my six-year-old son at the time -- he's now 18 -- he said, 'Dad, I think you're probably a pretty good actor, but why did you play that terrible guy King Koopa in Super Mario Bros.?' and I said, 'Well Henry, I did that so you could have shoes,' and he said, 'Dad, I don't need shoes that badly.'"
Not exactly a glowing endorsement from the Hopper family, but what would you expect from a movie that's currently sitting at a 6 percent Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes?

I think its the only bona fide pre-70s sci-fi classic I haven't seen, other than A Trip to the Moon. I'm still waiting for the complete print of Metropolis that was found last year to come out.

Who's Leslie Nelson? Was he at Trafalgar?
(Speaking of which... was Walter Pidgeon better than he was in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, or Warren Stevens better as Doc or as an Andromedan?
)

Btw, it seems JM Straczynski (B5) is interested in doing a remake.

My bad! Leslie Nielsen.
<< No so hot with remembering names
That said Nielsen used to be in a lot of non comedy roles back in the day and of the ones Ive seen, he always seemed a so much better actor than he did in the comedies. I loved Pidgeon in both the FP & VttBotS roles but without seeing them together I be pretty hard pressed to say which I thought he did better in right now. Warren Stevens, I only remember from FP.

Oh, thats not right!
Well, probably wouldn't be much worse than the new Star Trek coming out. Finally saw the trailer with actual actors in it on XBL...my joy turned into terror as it looked like they're turning Trek into another teen movie. Visuals reminded me of Galaxy Quest more than Star Trek too. Instead of the cut and clean professional look, it had that goofy fun thing going which is more suited for Galaxy Quest than Trek. Then changing things around in the story with starships being built on earth vs the space docks...I'll go see it just to see it cause i'm a trek fan, but I reserve to right to demand a refund if it sucks.

No, but it looks like a fun fan film anyway.

Nothing for Mega Man at Movie-List.com, so if there is it's not a major studio release... but they do have a new re-encode in their Classics series, Chuck Heston in "The [O]mega Man." (No Soylent Green yet, so no "Soylent Green- it's made out of NCs, it's made out of NCs!")
Vaguely related, just added- "Astro Boy." In the 'actually promising' category, "Watchmen."
And for NC, a trailer page for the '09 ST. (I know, don't thank me).

Or a US studio release anyway.
Seems to be an independent specializing in Short Films, Fan Films, and one feature film

First, that's not a video game, that's anime.
But, yeah. I saw the first trailer, and I'm not too happy. Though I must say that I saw Speed Racer expecting to hate it, and I didn't.

I know what it is - anyway, I used to watch AstroBoy on our black and white Philco while wearing my jammies.
This looks like a glossed up version - I wonder if they kept the odd sense of - everything - that was in the original series. The inclusion of weirdo Nick Cage gives me hope.

Re: Game movie craptacularity continues, intensifies
I watched the trailer. There really wasnt anything there to indicate they are going to butcher it. At least they didnt try to make it live action... that would have had my eyes rolling. I am going to be hopefully optimistic on this once.

Actually it's both

There's also a new one coming out next year.

Of course that does bring up the inverse of this topic, crappy games based on shows and movies.
