A Few basic Questions

I signed on today, and my profile says this: User name: MA4Lfolder
Team number: 18

I can not find where to change my user name. I didn't choose this name & it isn't very original.

Does the 18 mean that there are only 18 in my group? Or is 18 the number of my team?  confused

I am very new to all of this and not to bright so bear with me.

Thanks for any help at all.

Marie

Re: A Few basic Questions

Team 18 is the team's number. There's a lot more folks in the team. The number is low because MAF, er, M|LF has been a strong supporter of the folding project since the beginning.

Re: A Few basic Questions

Welcome Maribelle

Find the file "client.cfg".   It's probably in the Home / Library folder with some folder name such as fah1 or Folding@Home, depending on which installer you used.  In there, edit the username to whatever you like.    It won't open directlly when you doubleclick it.   So, open TEXTEDIT.   Then drag the client.cfg to TEXTEDIT in the Dock.

Re: A Few basic Questions

Thanks! Client opened in something called World Edit that I didn't even know I had. I did what you suggested and moved it to text edit.

Re: A Few basic Questions

You must have used the team's installer. The changes to the client.cfg file won't take effect unless folding is quit first. You can kill fah5 from the Activity Monitor or Terminal. Once you make the changes, a restart will get it going again.

I tried that and it didn't work. Still shows user as MA4Lfolder so I guess I'll let it go

Thanks everyone for trying

Re: A Few basic Questions

Where are you looking for your user name?
Which type are you using? (Screen saver, Console, or the Graphical client)
If your running the  Console version, look for your user name in the FAHlog.txt found in the same folder as the config file.

I'm new at this too, so I'm no expert.

No idea which installer. I did download from a link I saw here

This si what World Text & Text Edit say:

[settings]
username=Cajunlady
team=18
asknet=no

machineid=1

[http]
active=no
host=localhost

Ask before connecting: No
[23:57:35] - User name: Cajunlady (Team 18)
[23:57:35] - User ID: 3AE98D1C326F0DB2
[23:57:35] - Machine ID: 1
[23:57:35]
[23:57:35] Loaded queue successfully.
[23:57:35] + Benchmarking ...
[23:57:41]
[23:57:41] + Processing work unit
[23:57:41] Core required: FahCore_78.exe
[23:57:41] Core found.
[23:57:41] Working on Unit 01 [July 9 23:57:41]

etc etc etc. so maybe it knows me as Cajunlady after all, despite what file:///Users/admin/fah1/MyFolding.html says

Re: A Few basic Questions

I'm not sure that the MyFolding.html file gets updated. You could probably just remove that file, and I wouldn't doubt that it would be recreated the next time Folding@home starts up.

Re: A Few basic Questions

Yep, do not worry about the MyFolding.     As long as  the client.cfg is correct, we'll see you on the charts as Cajunlady
