November!

Ya'll head up to games. Lots of new stuff with E3 going on. A new trailer and a release month.

Re: November!

I hope GoW PC's still on track for November, because UT3's now looking a tad doubtful. Again, details in Games.

Re: November!

Comments from link...

Sigh I hate when noobs (to the series) review games.

including variable armor power ups (some for the helment, some for the chest, some for the legs) along with the power shoes that highly increase your jumping ability

Jump Boots! Get it right people.

Of course all of the classic UT weapons are back; the link gun, the biogun, the shock rifle, the rocket launcher (now with some homing abilities if you keep the reticule on the target for a few seconds) the mini-gun and of course the Redeemer. Most of the weapons do come with their classic alt-fire modes (fire three rockets instead of just one for example). There is a new sniper rifle, and a new anti-vehicle handheld missle launcher that locks onto a target instantly.

Um the RL has ALWAYS had some homing abilities. Nothing new. The mini-gun has been replaced by the Stinger. AVRiL (Anti Vehicle Rocket Launcher) isn't new either.

After playing the deathmatch maps we then switched over to a standard CTF set up, this time on an really weird looking H.R. Giger art inspired sci-fi map that had two bases floating in the air and linked by two somewhat narrow bridges. It was a fairly small map so it was perfect for the amount of players we had and yes, the translocater is back and was used a lot in the level to quickly move through portions of it. We think this level will be one that people will either love or hate (we grew to love it in our playtest).

Sounds like Face 3 to me. big_smile

PS3 owners can simply download the mod when they go to a server that has it installed, or download and save it to a PC USB flash drive and transfer it to the PS3 (Epic told us Sony has made special arrangements to have a folder on the hard drive for PS3 UT 3 mods).

Wow what a PITA. Um so when Jail Break, CUT or some other large mod is release you have to sneaker net it over. lol If memory serves I think CUT and RO were a gig or bigger.

Epic told us they have a list of potential mods that will be blacklisted for PS3 owners (in theory a UT 3 mod based on Star Wars could leave Sony open to a copyright lawsuit rather than just the mod team that made it).

Well that seals it. PC version for me. Oh wait I don't own a PS3. wink Still that sucks the SW mod was a good one.

Players will also be able to customize the looks of the characters (there are four different teams, two human and two alien, each with four different characters) with different helmets, faceplates, armor and so on.

Sweet Jesus! Does that mean Gold and Green teams are back!

Epic still plans to release the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3 this November; that playable demo should be released in a matter of days.

A demo in days!?! Nooooo I haven't gotten to play any H3 MP yet!

Re: November!

JCal is usually better than this. But he's 40, so his memory's probably going... smile

Damn, the Stinger's back from Unreal. Does it fire Tarydium shards? cool

The AVRiL has instant lock-on? eek I hope they're in shorter supply for the bots. Get airborne in botmatch, whoops, 3 rockets homing on me 2 seconds later.

Hope the game still has .ini files and the like. With the consoles, they've been moving away from that, common codebase and all.

======

Well, to make up for that and uphold FS's honor, a blast from the past. big_smile

And the  UT3 Mac demo is?..

Until there is a UT3 Mac demo I will continue to crush the UT2k4 experienced bots into sad crashing piles of mechanoid rubble.

Re: November!

Well I've played a bit of the Beta Demo on my PC.
1. Runs pretty well on my 2.2 GHz Athalon with a ATI x850 and a GIG of RAM at 1920x1200. Choppy when a lot is on screen at once.
2. If you like the movement in 2K4 you my be disappointed. You now feel like the big hulking brute you are.
3. Weapons? Sweet I don't see anything wrong with the majors. The hand gun seems pretty useless and I have no idea what the piston will be good for.
4. Vehicles? The flying stuff is all good but the other stuff seems harder to control.
5. Looks? Pretty nice even with the lower quality textures in the demo. That may be as good as it gets for me since I doubt that my setup will handle all the eye candy.

Once again there are rumors of a Mac version of the editor. See Beyond Unreal.

Ask Ryan Gordon? Probably lagging as usual, likely needs 10.5 for best graphics.

And Doc, if you're up to a few hundred in upgrades, an AGP X1950 Pro plus another Gig of RAM would do wonders for your framerates and eye candy- UT3 isn't as dependent on CPU as previous UTs. Also see thread in Games.

(We also need to get our game on in H3, altho my head is more into coop. I'm not keen on open servers yet, but custom friends games sound good, tho I don't know the maps. [/hyjack]).

Movement has moved closer back to '99. More weight and not as floaty.

Keep this point in mind people, if you absolutely love UT2004's movement and never played and/or hate the original UT's moment, you will not like this.

Personally, I love it. It's the way movement should have been in UT2004. Not that fancy, ballerina, I-can-fly-20-feet-in-a-single-bound stuff.

Gonna keep my fingers crossed for the Mac UnrealEd, but won't hold my breath.

Re: November!

Wow did I just luck out. Since C.City wasn't doing preorder of UT3 I went to GameStop. GameStop just upped the preorder bonus to include a free copy of Unreal Anthology. Previously it was just a bonus model of some Iron Guard chick. So for $50 you get all the Unreals (sans 03 but do we care?). Not bad considering B.Buy sells the Anthology for $20 alone.

Unreal Anthology with 5 games including Unreal, Return to Na Pali expansion, Unreal II: The Awakening, Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition and Unreal Tournament 2004 with Editors Choice Edition & Mega Bonus Pack.

Re: November!

So many games (H3,UT3, GoW PC, Orange Box, Mass Effect) so little time!eek

Have to make sure when I pickup my pre-order for UT3 later today that Game Stop doesn't stiff me on the Unreal Anthology since I ordered before the bonus was announced.

Re: November!

Well I gotta say that UT3 has some issues. Mainly stability issues. Crashed mid single player campaign and again in the middle of an online Warfare match. Then numerous times at startup. All for no obvious reason. Part of the problem may be RAM - it wants everything you can give it. The first thing to do is go to the service manager and kill all non-essential services. Then if your PC is showing some gray hairs as mine is do some ini diving and turn off eye candy. Things like Bloom, Decals, DepthOfField. Also take your textures and world detail down a notch - going from 3 to 2 worked for me. We'll see how it goes but I will not be surprised if I see more crashes. Sad that the demo never crashed once on me and the full game seems to crash better than it runs.

Re: November!

Ah to be in love again but as with any relationship there are rough spots and issues.

I couldn't get the demo to play beyond 1024X768. Anything higher just shut my machine off. POOF! After spending a couple hours just geting retail to run I got all my problems figured out. Seems that I was O/Cd too much for UT3. Once I went to stock the game ran fine...tbh it ran great. Now to take the baby steps again to see how far I can push the hardware.

Athy 64 X2 4800+, Dual 7800GTXs in SLI, 2Gb Ram at stock clocks runs UT3 on high at 1280X1024 @ solid 50FPS. Oh and I'm running nVidia's 169.09 beta drivers huge improvment over the 163.71 or 75s that are out now. SLI for UT3 works now.

Re: November!

Hey Llevi did I see you last night briefly on Slaughter's Warfare server? Slaughter's servers are very nice play grounds and the guys there are usually not whiny 10 year olds.
